Given what you've said, I stand by my 255/40 recommendation. After you go this route, come on back and tell me how little you actually lost in regards to steering sharpness, and how happy you are with them across the board.

That was just a mistake. I vomit anytime I see an FK8 on factory wheels.

I still suggest 255/40 or 265/40 DWS06+'s and sticking with an offset between -45 and -35, along with the ITS ADM. You'll be very happy with the ride quality and performance/response of the car across the board.

This is very easy to determine... https://tiresize.com/comparison/ 265/45R18 is too tall. 265/40 is doable and will give you some nice sidewall for long hauls. I would still recommend stacking the ITS ADM on top of it, as it makes a notable difference.
