  1. CIVICXI *NOVICE* Track Thread!

Also, at least in the US, you can't use a MC helmet on track in a car - assuming they inspect them. I bought the $150 Zamp basic, open, helmet and it's perfect for occasional use, look I love a fancy helmet (I have a Schuberth MC one) but unless you are doing a lot of days I'd save the money.
  2. CIVICXI *NOVICE* Track Thread!

First track day? A helmet and better brake fluid is plenty IMO unless the track is exceedingly demanding or you have prior experience with limit driving. I noticed very few of the beginners on track with me used their brakes hard and tire wear looked good on my set so for your first outing I...
  3. *The FL5 Track Junkie Thread*

I'd think so since my emergency fillup gave me 107 to empty at full :D Oh, the range! 6.9 mpgs on track lol. My right knee still hurts from jamming it into the console trying to hold my position, now I get the guys swapping in full buckets for track time.
  4. *The FL5 Track Junkie Thread*

Great meeting you, had a ton of fun. Easy group to run with, hassle free. Also, our car take 12.78 gallons, how do I know? Ran out of gas in the driveway of a nearby gas station between sessions! I was pleased with a 1:51:09 considering, would definitely run there again. I'd love to do it...
  5. Type R Track Times Pedal Dance vs. Type R+ Long Press and Experience

You should be - they tell you everything you need to know about what alignment to use and tire pressures. Start with a good guess (ie, what are other people using) and then monitor tire wear carefully and adjust based on observed wear, there are great guides online. Tire pressures can also...
  6. CIVICXI *NOVICE* Track Thread!

No worries, I care about my skull! Also, want to pass tech :)
  7. CIVICXI *NOVICE* Track Thread!

Zamp RM-18H open face jobbie, it's SA2020 and was ~$140 shipped. Wish I could run my MC helmet as I have a very nice Schuberth I still use on the occasional kart day. Also got Forza MS 7 (again, lol) since it has Homestead as well as the 'Ring which I plan on visiting next year for my 50th...
  8. CIVICXI *NOVICE* Track Thread!

Finally signed up for a day, Jan 25th at Homestead. Oil change and brake fluid change are scheduled for the beginning of January prior to the event. Cheap helmet ordered. Not planning on pushing too hard in risky areas and not looking for fast times so I passed on an instructor although I am...
  9. VSA Off - Outside of +R Mode

I'd love to see a plugin device! I'd think an Arduino might work here? I "know a guy" who did that type of stuff on the ND Miatas, made some cool modules to add functions like auto-down windows when the top goes down. This and a rev hang fix would probably make me go with a tune if it was...
  10. Best one way coilovers?

Sent, but for a greater audience pretty much what I said is I'd start by getting the W&T combo you will use and then try to get some test sessions to see where the weak spots are. Does it need more spring rate? A swaybar? Etc. Probably where I'd start though is by getting as much alignment...
  11. Best one way coilovers?

I'm suggesting with that budget I wouldn't be going 1-way ;) Are you just looking for tuning simplicity? What is the "problem" with the stock suspension you are trying to solve? Are you running R compound tires? Have you tracked it with the OEM setup and the W&T combo you will use? My...
  12. Best one way coilovers?

If you're willing to go $3-4k you might as well go just that bit farther and get something like a JRZ IMO.
  13. Still Getting Adjusted to FWD | Homestead Miami Speedway Open Track Day

My main concern, considering the FL5 is FWD and I'm not going to be trying to get it sideways, is other drivers. Last thing I need is someone punting my car. For my first track event I'm definitely not worried about hitting 10/10ths across the track, all my experience is at <60mph or so with...
  14. Still Getting Adjusted to FWD | Homestead Miami Speedway Open Track Day

I'm tempted to reach out to a guy who built Arduino modules for the ND Miata or SES Electronics who've done some similar stuff for the FK8 to see if a "box" could be plugged in to allow an easy pedal dance button. Thankfully for street use TC/VSA is incredibly tolerant and doesn't make me want...
  15. Still Getting Adjusted to FWD | Homestead Miami Speedway Open Track Day

In R mode you can long press and fully defeat the system, pedal dance is only needed for other modes.
  16. Still Getting Adjusted to FWD | Homestead Miami Speedway Open Track Day

Awesome, I'm planning on hitting Homestead later in the year - mainly because of the heat! Probably look to do something in November.
  17. Snell 2020 Helmet Recommendations

I agree and so does my neck! I do recommend a neck collar too, you will all thank me later.
  18. Snell 2020 Helmet Recommendations

Start with a cheap(ish) one, if you like doing events and do them enough invest in a lighter one - your neck will thank you. I'd also suggest a neck collar, I used to get headaches without them running my NA Miata on fat R compounds. I'd go open face unless you need versatility (ie, you ride...
  19. Road Atlanta HPDE -- FL5 Track Review

You may know this already but the method I use to set camber is based on tire wear, I've used a pyrometer in the past which backs wear data as you'd expect. I'd run a few events with the tires in the same position and adjust based on wear.
