Nothing has been confirmed by Honda about the Type R unless I missed something.
It's anyone's guess the factory Honda chooses to build the new Type R. If built in Japan, it would make the car appear more "Japanese" even though majority of the parts are sourced all over the world. I don't envision Honda having multiple factories build the Type R as it's relatively low volume.
It'll be an improvement over the FK8 and will have a faster Ring time. The tires alone will shave off some time. If they can't beat its predecessor, that's pretty poor product engineering.
Will weigh 20-80lbs more than Fk8. All signs point to the 11th gen being slightly heavier...
Doesn't seem to make sense it'll try to eat up potential CTR buyers. It'll have to be different enough to not step on CTR buyers. Probably some kind of E-AWD/Hybrid setup with 6MT. It'll be almost like a cheaper 'NSX' experimental car.
Assuming the wheels are 19x9, you can just buy 255/35/19 tires. Much better selection and well within tire fitment specifications. And no it's not a downgrade just because it's 10mm slimmer. There's more to it than just tire width.
A base manual Civic and SI are almost competing with the same market. I can see American Honda ending SI sale in the future. R&D spent on the SI appears much smaller than the Type R. The Type R is a global brand and will help market Honda as a fun car brand.
i mean they want to maximize profit like any other company. The civic is a global car and pleasing the widest audience is probably one of the toughest problems to solve. It’s why the sedan is only sold in North America.
There's more to just the sidewall thickness that changes the handling sharpness. psi, different tire models have different stiffness, etc etc. all play a role.
These cars are driven on public roads 99% of the time. More sidewall means less chance of destroying the tires/wheels.
Thanks, didn't want to go back 8 pages to find this.
It sounds like Honda listened and went with 19s. 20s were just plain stupid and for aesthetic purposes IMO. It would make even more sense that the new one comes with 19s since the test mule appeared to have 19s from the FK2.
