  1. Best Type R exhaust mods for FL5

Has anyone checked to see if the valved exhaust on the FL5 is driven by the same type of vacuum line as you'd find on a Porsche or Audi exhaust? If so, it's generally super easy to crimp and zip tie it to keep the valve open all the time and add some extra sound. Just curious.
  2. First FL5 Type R at Santa Monica Honda

Lol nope. I ended up driving into the El Segundo office instead of Santa Monica this week. I'll be over in Santa Monica next week and will stop in for a laugh though.
  3. 🙋🏻‍♂️ Media Launch Questions for savagegeese?

I had a SoCal Porsche dealer offer me a new Boxster Spyder for significantly less markup than Santa Monica Honda wants for their FL5.
  4. 🙋🏻‍♂️ Media Launch Questions for savagegeese?

I'd be very eager to get a mechanical comparison to the FK8 in your review. It seems like they transplanted all of the same mechanical parts from the last Type R into a new, slightly stiffer chassis, along with some minor tuning of the engine and suspension. I'm really hoping that I'm wrong...
  5. FL5 Adaptive Sound Control and Active Exhaust Valve Discussion

I understand that's how it functions electronically (that's how nearly all of them function), but mechanically the valve is typically controlled via a vacuum line. On my TT RS, I was able to crimp this vacuum line and then zip tie it crimped. This mechanically prevents the valve from closing...
  6. FL5 Adaptive Sound Control and Active Exhaust Valve Discussion

This is probably a dumb question, but can't you just zip tie the vacuum hose for the valve so that it's always open and then turn off the engine sounds in the interface? Every car with an OEM valved exhaust that I've ever owned has one of these small vacuum hoses that can be either plugged or...
  7. New OEM parts arrive for (and before) my FL5

For this generation, are the interior carbon pieces stick ons or replacement trim?
  8. First FL5 Type R at Santa Monica Honda

I work a few blocks from there in the Colorado Center. I'll have to take my FK8 over this week and sneak a peek. Thanks for the heads up!
  9. FL5 Type R JDM Spec leaked, +40kg;Reservation skyrocketed in Japan reported by Bestcar

From my experience on the FK8, I think that it'll be less pumped-in sound and more completely synthesized sound. The FK8's fake engine noise was insanely artificial and wasn't even done well. Hopefully the FL5's will be a little more realistic and engaging.
  10. Is the CTR the type of car you "drop" into, like a sports car?

No wait-list needed. I managed to talk a dealer down on a CPO Spyder with 2K miles to "only" 12k over MSRP. That might sound insane, but I have full confidence that I'll never, ever find one that cheap ever again. I have no "status" with Porsche to get an allocation, and every other example that...
  11. Is the CTR the type of car you "drop" into, like a sports car?

I'll take one of those slots if you're so inclined kind sir. I just had to pass on a once-in-a-lifetime deal on a 718 Spyder in order to keep my debt to income low enough to buy a house, and I'm feeling salty. Wouldn't mind upgrading my FK8 to an FL5 as a consolation prize. 🙂
  12. Is the CTR the type of car you "drop" into, like a sports car?

You do not drop into it in the way you're looking for. It's a great performance car, but you're not going to need to squat to get in and out like you would a Cayman GT4.
  13. 2023 Type-R comes with K20C1 again!!!? Look inside…your thoughts?

I agree that they're never going to sound like the sweet music coming out of an RS3 or something like an R34, but there are manufacturers with pleasant-sounding 4 cylinder turbos. The Veloster N actually sounds pretty good (even without the bangs and pops), as does the newer VW turbo 4's. Even...
  14. 2023 Type-R comes with K20C1 again!!!? Look inside…your thoughts?

I do wish that they'd modify the engine architecture to sound a bit better. On the FK8, there is no way to make the K20C1 sound good. Your exhaust note choices are Nothing, Terrible, or Acceptable.
  15. This is it... 2023 Civic Type R Leaked on Honda Japan Website! 📸

I prefer the GT350 in every way but reliability to my FK8. YMMV, but I feel like they are both very track focused, with the GT350 having way better auditory engagement (that engine screaming at 8k RPM is unreal).
  16. 2023 Civic Type R Full Reveal Coming July 20!

I love the Voodoo engine. My time with the Mustang GT350 evoked images of a Ford-made Cayman. It definitely had its reliability issues though.
  17. 2023 Civic Type R Full Reveal Coming July 20!

Fair - I can't speak to reliability. I only had a day with the Veloster N press car. It was a great experience though - I thoroughly enjoyed it. For what it's worth, there are many great performance cars out there with questionable reliability (some at the peak of what we consider to be...
  18. 2023 Civic Type R Full Reveal Coming July 20!

I'd explain why you're wrong, but a slew of the best automotive journalists in the world have already been doing that since the inception of the Veloster N. A great car is a great car, regardless of whether your favorite auto manufacturer made it or not.
  19. 2023 Civic Type R Full Reveal Coming July 20!

I hope that Hyundai crushes it at the N event and puts Honda completely on their back foot. When two performance vehicle manufacturers compete, we're the ones who win.
  20. 2023 Civic Type R Full Reveal Coming July 20!

If the performance aspect of the new model is significant enough, I'd consider upgrading. I'm one of those that have never really loved the looks of the current gen (I own it because of how it drives), and would also consider upgrading if the aesthetics of the new model are desirable to me...
