I think also it would help to keep in mind its not just a transmission. It'd also a torsen style diff that is going to be seeing whatever fluid you choose. I feel like Honda oem changed often enough is a good move.
My opinion is 8-1200mi. Key word is OPINION. If I end up with a CTR, I plan to do diff, trans, oil initially at 1k. This is a habit that's served me well on other cars.
How "replaceable" is the front end stuff. Like the 2 grills and the front air dam?
Also, side skirts?
On the Viper, and my Z06, side skirts are actually glued on and big money to replace.
An example is when my Rav4 Prime ate a steel pipe on the freeway and took out the lower grill. It cost me...
Great posts!!!
So, another question. This one is a "what if", but its realistic for ME.
I live very rural. We have animals. I once hit a raccoon and have narrowly missed many more. Often there is road kill you can't dodge due to corners and oncoming cars. You eat it, brake hard and pray, or go...
I feel like gearing is huge. For example back when I had my ev6 gt, if I ran a current model mustang gt, and it was manual, nothing could save it. Id just murder the pos. With the 10 speed, even stock ones would do a slow fading loss, but it was far from the absolute clowning of the manual
Does the FL5 seem like an afterthought compared to those 2, or same same but cheaper because the interior is lower brow and what counts is same same, or is it an obvious compromise?
The interior is the one place I found myself both disappointed and excited in the ctr.
How is it from a freeway roll, bone stock, vs some other popular stuff. Say, a manual g80 or a 475hp scatpack? I know thats absurdly far from its design mission, but...
My test drive literally got me considering it. I initially just wanted to drive it so I could move on in my quest with a check mark of "yeha, whatever, I drove one. Meh". Change my channel, that drive!
That is one appeal to the CTR, even more if they sell a complete HRC and I buy that---If I do get bored of it, it won't rob me on the way out the door like 99% of the others will.

This will be a second car for me. I want it to be awesome today, and awesome in 20 years at cars and coffee. I want to enjoy it. For me, I stop enjoying a car at around the $80k mark and begin stressing. I also don't want something like an AMG car that costs $20k to do rotors on.
Other than...
Very helpful. Thankyou.
I remember when Silvia with sr20det was a popular and accessible vehicle move in my area in college. Man what I wouldn't give for a clean one today!
That said, can you speak more to why you love the CTR so much, and do yoi view fwd as a benefit, liability, downside...
My main take away is that idiots designed the car and have no clue what fluids it even works optimally with, at best, and at worst, Honda wants to lower the driving experience joy and reliability by specing sub optimal fluids.
Or maybe the factory spec fluid is best.
Gotta be one or the other.
I am considering a CTR for my next fun car. Some background on this...
I drove an ev6 GT for a few years. It was fast as hell and boringly reliable. I crushed almost every car that had a go at me. Roll or dig. But it lacked soul. It wasnt engaging. After a few wot blasts, it was very mundane...
