So with the introduction of the FL5 we thought that we’d finally get 20-minute all-out pace sessions on track, but that’s proven to be yet another dream that’s far from reality. After 15 minutes on a mildly warm September day at 85% pace the oil temp was at 125C / ~260f, and I had to do a cool down lap to not suffer an oil temp related engine failure that I experienced in my FK8 (no oil cooler at the time) a month earlier.

With that said, I’m delighted to share that Unity Performance is now an Authorized Dealer for HEL Performance USA, the US-subsidiary for a UK-based manufacturer of motorsport products. HEL Performance UK developed this kit on their own shop FL5, their testing data shows nearly 20C reduction in oil temps. I, like any of you tracking your FL5’s need that drop in oil temps to have any hope of a reliable platform to enjoy at the track. Description

Introducing our new direct fit oil cooler for the all-new 2023-onwards Honda FL5 Civic Type R. The HEL Performance (Automotive) Development Centre has been working on this kit since we purchased our own FL5 to work on. We’ve spent a lot of time developing this one and are happy with the outcome.
Unlike the FK2 Civic Type R and much like the FK8, there were not a great deal of options for where an oil cooler could go on the FL5. After 3D scanning the front end we decided on the left side of the grille area which is in direct airflow and doesn’t hinder airflow to anything else.
A 16 Row Setrab Series 6 ProLine oil cooler oil cooler is used in this kit. The 16 row option gives a great balance between minimizing pressure loss while giving very effective cooling.

At the other end of our cooler we opted for our latest Multi Angled Billet Thermostatic sandwich plate. The front mounted thermostat gives extra clearance on this kit where space around the oil filter is limited. Using this plate also has 2 spare ports which allow you to fit temperature and pressure sensors if required.

HEL Performance Multi Angled Billet thermostatic sandwich plate set at 92°C (197.6°F). We've found the 92°C option gives you the perfect balance between cooling when needed and letting the engine warm up safely. It's also dangerous for the oil to be too cold and the thermostat controls the temperature with precision.

This comprehensive kit comes complete with preassembled high flow AN10 HEL Performance braided hoses and anodised aluminum fittings and all fixings/brackets which use OE pickups and requires no drilling/modifications on the car at all. The hoses are protected with abrasion-resistant heat shrink braided sleeving which aids also with noise and rattle suppression.

This direct-fit kit offers a safe and reliable cooling system for the FL5 Type R. It comes complete with easy-to-understand instructions and our technical support team are always happy to answer any questions you may have.
Please note:

The oil temperature data was collected using a stand alone SPAR oil temperature/pressure gauge where the sensor unit is mounted directly in the oil cooler sandwich plate. This has provided us with a true oil temperature reading during testing, whereas the data displayed on the HUD & Honda LogoR system is a simulated reading and should not be used for reference once an oil cooler kit has been installed.

Testing carried out at Castle Combe (UK) in 18°C (average) ambient air temp. Please see the provided graph for all information collected.

It’s off-season for many of us with harsh winter conditions, so right now is the perfect time to upgrade your cars in order to be ready for Spring and Summer! I’ve struggled with oil temperatures this past season in my FK8; hot oil temps would not only cut my sessions short on track but I also cracked my OEM turbo oil feed line in July while at the track after a 15-minute session, spraying oil all through my engine bay, and the OEM replacement was back-ordered till September which killed my track season. My FL5 wasn’t far behind either - I only felt comfortable pushing it 85% and still let off after 15 minutes of hot lapping to cool down so it didn’t suffer the same fate as the FK8.

The HEL Oil Cooler among other upgrades is necessary for me to confidently track my FK8 again, I really don’t want to be at the mercy of the factory cooling system not being able to cope more than a few laps. The shop FL5 will also be receiving the kit so if I do track it more next season I’m not worried about oil temps either.

FL5 guys aren't immune from hot oil temps, I was running into issues late September so imagine how peak July would take a toll on these engines.

Hope everyone's weekend is off to a great start! Eric S from NY is the first FL5 to have a confirmed FL5 deposit - thank you, Eric!

There's 3 confirmed FK8's already, and I'm speaking to a 4th one as we speak!

I've received messages on several platforms from folks asking to let them know so they can be the 10th, 15th, 20th etc. person in the Group Buy. I understand that you'd like to take advantage of the higher pricing tier, but by withholding entries till you get the desired price will hinder the overall success of the Group Buy, plain and simple.

I can advertise this heavily, but peer recommendations and your power to influence your friends to join along will be far greater than my outreach. The website also shows pop-ups of who's purchased what and with multiple names popping up for the FL5 & FK8 Oil Coolers it will convince others on and off the forum to join in, so please don't view Group Buys as just opportunities to take advantage of good pricing, but also to contribute collectively for a better result.

Even factoring in the $88 shipping charge, it'd be substantially cheaper from Dream Auto unless we can get it to at least 15 buyers. Are you willing to change this group buy to only pull the trigger if we get at least 15 on it?

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will discuss this with HEL USA tomorrow morning as they provided the pricing guide. Do keep in mind that there are additional duties shipping in parts from the UK as I carry Dream items and pay the additional fees myself, but there's definitely a large gap between Dream's price converted in USD vs. the one provided in the Group Buy

Alright everyone, I've got an update. Coincidentally management of HEL USA is currently visiting the UK headquarters to discuss how they can better align globally, and this case certainly proves that it's a necessity in order to not create further confusion between dealers in different markets.

I've been given a revised pricing structure specifically for this Group Buy, and I was informed that come new year there will be a new, higher MSRP due to an increase in cost, so the likelihood of ever scoring a deal like this again on the HEL Oil Cooler Kits is slim to none. Below is the revised pricing for the Group Buy:
