Long story short. Went from 4-3 when I wanted to go 4-5. Auto rev-match was on, so the engine revved high. I didn’t hear the shift sound you normally would when you rev to redline so I think I’m good.

Lesson learned.

Either way, I just want to be really sure that I’m good.

I hooked up the Hondata to the car, turned the car on (engine on) and clicked the data log icon (thunderbolt icon). Then I clicked on OBD|| and saw this screen. It was empty.

Also clicked on the Error Codes button and it was empty.

Am I going about this the right way? I’m looking for the P0219 code.

Also, that isn’t a code you’d be able to clear either right?

If you didn’t hear the sound might have over reved, the car won’t do the lights/ beep if your revs are too high I think. That is a way to know you did something wrong before releasing the clutch as the auto rev won’t do it.

Not sure hondata reads it, but get a generic obd code reader and it should read it.

@MooMoo I’d assume that the rev-match won’t do anything and thus the “upshift beep” won’t trigger.

But if you clutch out and your revs increase and you over-rev it would trigger the “upshift beep”.

In other words, the very fact that I heard and saw revs increase but didn’t hear a “beep” should mean that I didn’t over-rev. That’s the hope at least.

the rev match happens even before releasing the clutch. I might be wrong but if its over the treahold it won’t rev match/ show lights/ beep even if you release the clutch.
I am not saying this from experience but from what I understand of what I read when I had similar situation, hopefully someone that knows for sure will chime in.

@MooMoo Ah okay, I hear you.

My understanding is that over-revving is a mechanical occurrence that a limiter or rev-match system can’t protect you against.

Therefore, as you release your clutch and reconnect your engine to the transmission, the revs have no choice but to go up. And if it did go up too high into the red line, you’d trigger the cars “upshift now beep”.

I plan on taking the car to the dealer for a quick scan to put my mind at ease though. If they can’t see anything on that front I should be good I guess.

Why not just get a reader, you don't want the dealer to know what happened (even if you did get the over rev they will always know).

Also even if you have the over rev code you are probably fine as the car is driving totally fine, the ove rev code sucks more for if you still have warranty, or if you want to sell the car and someone goes snooping.

I don’t want to risk not properly reading the codes. Besides, if I have the code now vs later when I’m trying to claim warranty they’d know either way haha. This is more of a “do I need to run a compression test?” to check for damage kinda thing.

Either way, you make a great point. I should probably invest in an OBD scanner of my own.

I getchu.

I personally would not worry about the compression test if the car is driving fine. These engines are pretty stout but I understand the need to know haha. Hope all is good and no code

Happy to report no codes past or present. Looks like I was within safe engine parameters when I accidentally downshifted and just got caught off guard.

I do have an Evap Readiness monitor that is incomplete but that may be due to the fact that I haven't driven much since tuning the car in December (if that wasn't already apparent by the mis-shift).

Gotcha, yea I read the manual to confirm this as well. I appreciate your input!

In this thread however, we were debating that if you did happen to release the clutch during a mis-shift that the shift buzzer will still go off once you hit redline and beyond. I think that’s true given that the shift lights and buzzer are a separate system.

Mannn, you are a real one. I’ve been trying to search for FL5 over-rev videos with no luck.

Thank you!

Autel AP200 Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner is a easier way to check as it just checks everything in a few clicks.

Just peace of mind know you didnt over rev as you might mod or avoid the money dealer might make you pay taking apart an engine.
