I posted this in the braking forum as well but then thought it might be more appropriate in this one:

Anyone have experience with Dixcel rotors? I came across the brand while browsing RHD Japan. Looks like they are a Japanese owned company. I found their North American distributor website and you can buy a front and rear set of high carbon rotors for $563 which is $141 a rotor. You can OEM replacements (single not two piece) for $464 for a front and rear set. Free shipping to US and Canada (distributor is based on Canada)!

I was thinking of getting a set of blanks for track rotors. Sure does beat the cost of OEM 2 piece rotors. I've always run blanks on my track cars vs slotted/drilled.

I would want to run 2 piece rotors for the track, to take advantage of the heat benefits of a 2 piece. Seems counterintuitive to take away that benefit.

I’m trying to keep consumables cost down. I get the value of 2pc rotors but I’ve also run blanks on other cars and have had zero issues. A single 2pc is almost the entire cost of a full set of blanks if you go OEM. Go Giro disc and it’s even more.

I get that, but the fronts are almost $400.

With Girodisc, less weight, increased cooling, and replaceable rings. Not sure what other cars you run blanks on, but these tuned boosted FWD cars can overheat the fronts when really going after time

The Dixcel front are $400 for a pair, not each. Giro are $400 each with replacement rings being about $300 each. If rings are 3/4 the cost the rotor then the value of my time to install and torque those rings on isn’t necessarily worth $100 delta. Don’t get me wrong, I totally get the value of 2pc rotors, but I got 3 young kids and track days are hobby but not a career. I’m not doing time trials/attacks so im never running at 10/10 on track either.

I run Brembo blanks on my FD RX7. It is a single turbo making 400WHP. Truthfully the FD is WAY cheaper on consumables (Brembo blanks are ~$50 each) but that car is irreplaceable if I wreck it. The CTR is also a lot safer as my FD isn’t caged, doesn’t have airbags etc. The CTR is my ideal platform to move to for track days but I also don’t wanna have to dump thousands of dollars into it to go to the track 3-6 days a year.

if that's the case, I would just use the OEM rotors and save all the money.

I usually do time attack, so my needs are different than the average HPDE person

What’s your thought on OEM rotors and just changing pads. I’ve always been told pads should be mated to rotors so running OEM rotors with a set of track and OEM pads doesn’t seem optimal. That being said, OEM rotors are a solid $400 each so not a huge savings over Giro vs moving to Dixcel blanks.

You pretty much answered your own question.

Bed-in is not limited to mating new pads to new rotors. Do the same when you swap between your street and track pads.

OEM Rotors cost more than Giro's no? ~350/rotor + shipping. Giro replacement rings are 300/ring.

Giro seemed like the right move for cost and benefit. 8 days into the season, plenty of life left, and barely any heat checking. Value prop is definitely there. Paired with CSG pads -- no dreaded Brownbos.

sorry, you are correct. I checked some online honda parts shops and the OEM is $345 + shipping. They apparently don't sell just the OEM ring.

If so, this defeats the purpose of the 2 piece design. I have stoptech 2 piece rotor on my S2000. I originally bought it through Tirerack. I haven’t checked in a long while but they don’t sell either parts separately.
