FL5 infotainment reliability

So let me first say that I realize no car is perfect. However, I would like to find one that has a better or more reliable infotainment system than what I currently experience in my FK8.

My current issues are mostly focused around the system booting up in an unusable state where I experience issues music and navigation in google maps. No matter what I do I cannot stop this from happening on occasion (it happens about 20% of the time).

The other issue is if I am in a phone call, and then get into and start my car. The call transfers to the call via bluetooth like it should since thats an automatic process - but then the system has problems with Nav (google maps) and just basic function until I am able to restart/reboot the car.

Does anyone with a FL5 have these problems? I have read that the 2025 has a google based system - so it could behave differently than the '23-'24. I also assume the Type S shares the system in the Type R.

Its important that I am able to start a call and transfer it to my car because of my job.. As it stands I am going to have some issues with the FK8. I dont want to install an aftermarket system since this is my daily driver.

I don’t think the 2025s are any different at all, from what I remember at least.

I can tell you the infotainment is great, zero issues I have had in 3k miles. I did turn off the nav though, if nav is on then car play can be pretty slugish but once thats off its been absolutely perfect.

I have transfered calls from car play and don’t remember having an issue there, not sure about the honda system I never use that for calls

I suggest disabling factory navigation if possible. Makes infotainment much more responsive may resolve some lock ups.

2nd this. After I did this, all the weirdness with Apple Carplay went away and general quickness of the UI was snappy. Now, if they there was a way to fix the iffy wireless charging....

I upgraded from a 2020 FK8. I can confidently say the FL5 is one thousand bazillion times better. I had it get laggy once and be weird, but power cycling the car fixed it. I think it was because it was still brand new and I was messing around with a lot of stuff.

Unlike the FK8, it auto reboot's once in a while and keeps going smoothly. The audio quality is a million times better too, I have no desire to do any upgrades to the Bose system. I am SO happy with it.

I’ve been experiencing similar, start the car and it can take a minute+ before the infotainment boots up, I just get a black screen. I’d say it occurs about 20% of the time.

I did this before and it did massively improve the responsiveness of the car infotainment but Google Maps stopped working when set to navigate somewhere. (Google Maps still worked fine when not navigating to a destination though)

Has anyone experienced this issue after disabling the factory navigation?

3d printed mount off of Etsy, oem mag charger, and 45w cig charger. Fast charging and phone stays in place perfectly.

Before disabling factory nav, which will also break your compass in the vehicle, just try rebooting the system.

1 - Hold home+power+previous (bottom left button)

2 -Tap detailed information and settings

3 - Hold back+power+previous

4 - Tap system reboot

Would also like to try disabling nav if it means everything is smoother/faster, but my biggest gripe with the infotainment is that sometimes wireless android auto doesn't want to connect, for days at a time.

Wireless Android Auto sometimes won't pair if I connect my earbuds to my phone and it loses default pairing, but it is very frustrating to not have google maps. I've done forget and re-pair and that doesn't work. Sometimes plugging into USB works to kickstart it, but usually not. I've been looking for an infotainment reboot so I dont have to turn off the car.

Sometimes it just doesn't connect randomly too. I use it for traffic, but my son apparently monitors it more often than I do, he calls it out every time

2025 same black screen issue after removing battery ground to put on the suede wheel.

I reset the whole audio system via the screen (in settings on '25 models) and it came back after a few drives.

A thread on reddit led me to pull the audio fuse (15a left side in fuse box, check the fuse key) and so far so good. Someone else in the tread noted that they had to pull the ground again and the fuse trick didn't work.

I'll reply back with updates.

No kidding. That 2015 era infotainment in the FK8 was the worst thing about the car. I also had a 2020. It would completely crash and render the climate control useless on about 50% of my trips. And if you didn’t wait for the system to fully boot before plugging in your phone CarPlay would not work. On top of all that the stereo was awful. Loving the FL5.

My '24 had one issue with the infotainment and after that one time I disabled the factory nav and ever since I have had no issues with it. Its 1021031209328x's better than what was in the FK8 that I put up with for too long.
