2018 VA WRX STI,
The actual spec was already leaked about 1 month ago, and it was confirmed by the new brochure below(not the old one released in July), the official release date is Sep.1 for Japan (scheduled to accept orders officially by Honda, even it's fact that dealer already takes reservation ). JP Honda didn't update the spec yet on official website

The power is 330PS/326 HP, 420NM, the weight is 1,430kg. I also add JDM spec FK7/FK8, and FL1 screenshots below, so you can compare them. Be careful tho, the weight for JDM market may not be like DIN weight/EU weight. Actually, I think the US weighting system is not consistent and sometimes confusing

FK8: 1,390kg
after facelift FK7: 1,330kg(MT)/1350kg - 1,380kg(CVT)
FL1: LX trim, 1,330kg(MT)/ 1,360kg (CVT)

FL5 Final drive ratio is 3.842 rather than 4.111, and the 1 to 6th gearing is the same. the gas tank increased 1L, the fuel economy changed too

According to lastest release from Bestcar Magzine Japan, they said "Telephone surveys were conducted at 10 Areas in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Yokohama, Saitama, Chiba, Tochigi, Gunma, Hokkaido.... Certainly, if you simply add up the number of orders received by phone from salespeople at 10 bases, it easily exceeds 3,000 units... but there are about 2,100 Honda dealers (including directly managed Honda dealers)"
Translated directly by Google

“the production volume of this fiscal year until April 2023 is likely to be 6000 units. However, according to the latest information, there is also information that the production will be increased to 10,000 units.”

*update 9.1, brochure add back/ Aug.29 just deleted the new brochure pics that were shared on Twitter, some JP folks are extremely angry about it since the OG tweet leaked the brochure before Sep.1. According to them, the dealer and sales who provide the brochure for reservation use will get punished because of the early leak by the tweet, although it's fact that the info was leaked way earlier in July.

Do you know if the article stated whether the production unit numbers were only for Japan or worldwide?

Here is a little comparison between wheelbases :

GR Corolla - 2639mm
BMW 2022 M240i - 2741mm
BMW 2021 M2C - 2748mm
Civic Type R FK8 - 2700mm
Civic Type R FL5 -
2735mm

FL5 has increased in wheelbase (2700mm -> 2735mm), but still shorter than the M2 (2748mm), which feels very nimble around corners. Seems like the FL5 will be just as playful, if not more :headbang:

No, it didn't state that I think. The order amount is quite large in Japan, The rumour from 5 Channel said there are more than 10,000 orders.
Some dealers choose to use a lottery system to decide who can buy the car; some dealers use FCFS. but just like Honda Cars Nozaki who is famous dealer that sold the most Civic Type R in Japan, said they may take 2-3 years to deliver 80 cars.
“If there were no restrictions on orders for the new Civic Type R, we received reservations for about 150 units, but there was a situation where we might not be able to buy them, so we declined most of them. Currently, we have received more than 80 units. ”

sry I changed the wording a little bit. when Honda unveiled FL5 in July, the news said Sep.1 should be the official release date, and Honda accepts orders officially. The spec should be released too at that time. not quite sure about other market

That extra 20hp should help with the 90lbs weight gain. The FD ratio will also help with 0-60 times for the motor journalist too lol

FK8 sold roughly 7,000 units worldwide each year, so 10,000 a year seems reasonable for worldwide, not for just Japan.

And 6th gear cruising fuel economy as well.

Personally, I'm fine with having to shift to 3rd before 60. Shifting is fun, after all.

The wheels are significantly smaller btw, so the gear ratios might not make a huge difference with the car overall.

I thought having to shift to 3rd before 60, would give a worst 0-60 time...

Keep in mind Japan and EU FK8 CTR was rated at 316HP, so its really only a 10HP gain. I suspect the NA FL5 will be rated at 316HP.

It has a lower final drive than the FK8 which will lengthen the gears, also gives it a higher top speed as well.
