On Friday the 20th, picked up a new Sport in the only proper color for a Honda…NH883P, well any form of white is for me how a Honda should be.
Reason I grabbed it, on Monday on my way home, suddenly lost acceleration ability in my ‘20 Accord Sport 2.0 6MT. Drove into work on Tues and Thursday, thankfully it would do the speed limit just with zero boost. On Wed was not able to find a boost leak, though don’t have a smoker to verify that for sure. I think the MHI2 may have suicided itself. Just no time to dig into it, so a new hybrid Civic it was. This giving me ample time to really dig into the Accord and find/fix the issue(s).
Grabbed a Sport versus the Touring, don’t care for leather seating and my pair of Bride carbon Zeta IV that have been sitting idle will be going in to replace the not very comfortable stock seats anyways. Just waiting on a shipment from Japan with a set of Bride FX rails. Also have an aftermarket Android unit on order to replace the stock unit, which would have happened regardless if Touring purchased. So really didn’t see the need for the Touring.
My last Honda hybrid was when I lived in Japan, had a Vezel RS Hybrid and it was a great daily instead of continuing to daily the basically circuit spec GE8 Fit. I wish I had that here stateside and well that Vezel, it wasn’t white, it was a beautiful red that Honda doesn’t sell stateside. It just looked too good on that body style.
Anyways just a few days into ownership of the ‘vic and it has been quite decent in FE. Rural roads, no highway and not too much “city” traffic unless drive into Atlanta. Averaging 52.5mpg over the 154 miles driven so far. A welcome upgrade to the Accord’s 25mpg average, though that close to 200hp difference is noticeable, but not actually missed as I know what this is and isn’t.
Have had a handful of Civics (EF3 Si, EF9 SiR, EK4 SiR, EG9 SiR over the years, majority were all my years living in Japan, with this 1 being just the 2nd stateside. First was a ‘20 FC3 Si coupe, selected it over a R when I moved back to the US because the FK8 just looks goofy to me and the FC3 if I squinted kind of reminded me of my long ago DC5R. That was totaled by a careless woman not at all paying attention and slamming into my rear end as I waited to make a left at like 50mph with ZERO brake usage on her part.
Always been a Honda driver, another fun one was the AP2 (another not in white, was Silverstone, but the ONLY option on tiny Guam and the dealer had it for almost 2 years prior to mI bought when I moved to Guam, how I wish I kept it and brought it to mainland Japan when I moved back just 21 months later. Hell, how I wish I didn’t sell the 5R prior to leaving Okinawa had I known I would be back to Japan in less than 2 years. Though if that happened, #slowbeast never would have materialized the way it did.
Anyways, that’s my brief intro and I know forums are not as heavily frequented as they were years back, but I’ll pop in from time to time.
Will add some photos from vehicles listed above, not to the include the 4 older Civics. They were back in the early 90s and digital images were not yet a thing.
