Honda Going For FWD Nurburgring Lap Record With FL5 Civic Type R

It's always been their intention to have the official run after the reveal, without the camo. Their video needs to look good. They ran the FK8 around April-ish right after the debut. It just so happened that the temperatures weren't ideal around the time the FL5 was revealed. So we'll probably hear something within the month, otherwise, they'll need to wait until spring.

What are you talking about? Temps fluctuate a lot daily this time of year. That merc is in different territory - Honda is chasing the megane and temps and windage can have at least a several second delta on times.

Does a record time at a foreign track really influence people's buying decisions? Either way, they can't build these things fast enough... Kinda wish they'd flood the market with type R's so I could get one easily at msrp. Let's go Honda, the demand is there....crank 'em out!

It doesn't influence my buying decision... It is marketing and bragging right. A performance car doing performance things on the Green Hell. It is cool and always has been to me since I was young. So that is why it matters to me.

In the end there isn't a third party that oversees this so... Do I trust all of it. No.

there is a notary thing started in 2019, all vehicle that appeared in the official Nur record board must be measured and notarised. If you remember the 20th anniversary Golf R that did the time a few month ago, it didn't get into that record board because 1. only measure 20.6km time, and 2. potentially(I'm not sure) not notarised.

normally speaking, vehicles were inspected and documented by TÜV Rheinland to ensure that they were in series production. A notary confirmed the proper condition of the vehicles and the correct execution of the record runs.

well you can argue how legit it is, since camber ans sort of thing can still adjusted to the values within the delivery tolerance, but it seems like it has strict limitation on tires, so the Cup2c H0 may not be used

Assuming same tire compound, the 265 width tire should allow the fl5 to carry a little more speed around turns. The small weight disadvantage of the fl5 should matter less on a big track.

Very interesting that Honda isn’t talking or sharing any of information months after worldwide release of the car.
Maybe it was slower than the FK8 afterall.

What really is the point holding on to this lap time data if it was faster? Doesn’t make sense
