Hey guys! I was a member over on CivicX prior to my purchase of my new Champ White FL5. I certainly miss my 2019 FK8 and went through a lot of mental back and forth before I decided to pull the trigger and trade it in for the FK8. I'm an avid track junkie and tracked the heck out of my FK8, and plan to do the same with the FL5. I traded up for several reasons:
1. The FL5 platform appears to be able to fit wider tires than the FK8 without having to make modifications to the fenders.
2. The engine bay is roomier and appears to be easier to work within. (removing the rad support on the FK8 is annoying).
3. Log R. (not so much the app, but instead the gauges. I'm not a fan of drilling holes for aftermarket gauges).
4. Aerodynamic advantages.
5. Sportier ADAS.
6. (And probably the most important) The vented hood and larger radiator! (I was so tired of throwing money at the FK8's overheating issues on track).
At this very moment the car is completely stock with the exception to some window tint that I had applied to the vehicle, only 35% to keep it legal in my state.
I have two upcoming track weekends in October, and will be lightly prepping the car prior to those events!
Current Parts on Order:
1. HEL Oil Cooler Kit: (I saw the oil temps going nuts on the Suzuka and Nurburgring videos) The gentleman that I spoke with over at Dream Automotive said that their testing has seen a decrease by an average of 30 degrees Celsius, which would have temps maxing out under their test conditions around 230 degrees Fahrenheit, and I can live with that!
2. HEL Stainless Brake Lines. (Don't be dumb and spend $500.00 for the Spoon ones, I got these for $135 bucks!!!)
3. Motul RBF660 fluid (I was able to fade RBF600 in my FK8, so I changed to 660 and my problems disappeared).
4. Motul 300v Ester Core 0w20 (Ran this religiously in the FK8, and had great results)
5. I already have the AP/Essex Big Brake Kit that was fitted to my FK8. I'm going to install it on the FL5 (hope it fits, but I really don't have any reason to believe that it won't).
6. GiroDisc rear rotors
7. PRL catted downpipe
8. Paragon R7 pads for the front and R5's for the rear. (I've heard great things about the Paragon compounds from other drivers. I'm usually a Ferodo junkie, but I couldn't pass up the massive price difference. I'm going to try the Paragon and genuinely hope that I like them since they cost $400 less for a full set.)
I already have 2 full sets of Volks. Set number one is the CE28n club racer II black edition 18x9.5, and set two are the TE37SL black edition 18x9.5's. I run PS4S tires on the the CE28's for the street, and Nitto NT01's on the TE37's for the track. I have yet to install either wheel onto the car, and will likely wait until track time.
I guess my goal is to document the improvements I make to the car, but to also give track impressions as the build continues along the way! Hope you all enjoy!
