Been seeing this a lot lately, just spike to .7 earlier and the other night it jumped from .69 to mid .9's in a matter of seconds. I noticed before on my V2 that the knock count would flicker into the 1000s for just long enough to see it and go back to the single digit that it was at. Don't know if that could be causing it as this has happened while driving normally and no hard accelerations. I'm gonna grab a couple datalogs tomorrow on the way to work and home. Also don't know if I need to replace the knock sensor or check the wiring.

Well I changed out the spark plugs because of this and a hesitation issue that I have been having for months and now the K Control is locked at .49 and hesitation is basically gone. I wonder if I had a bad batch or possibly counterfeit NGKs in there. Was seeing misfires on 2 and 3 as well.

knock control skyrockets on mine when you go past 5k rpms or hit redline repeatedly. guess it's normal. but how high is too high? and how much power are we losing? if i keep it under 4800 rpm, it always stays at .49. but it will just keep going up and up past 5k.

.80 is where I personally start getting a little concerned. For reference, the "max" value is 1.3(ish).
If you're hitting .80, chill out and put it into a higher gear so k.con can learn down. Fuel quality is important here (don't use anything lower than 91 octane) and 9 times out of 10 will be the reason for elevated figures. If you have E85 locally, you can blend ~1 gallon to increase knock resistance.

Edit: here is a great read from 27WON.

always use 93. i just started monitoring it a couple months ago and the highest i've seen is .73. although i'm sure it got higher when i was pushing it hard in hot weather this past summer.

Most likely then. Upgraded the intercooler yet?

not yet. haven't decided which one to go with. any recommendations?
I currently run the PRL FMIC + High Volume Outlet, but would love to switch to the 27WON FMIC down the line. Both are fantastic, but I feel like 27WON put a bit more thought into making their FMIC.

Now, if RV6 made the same FMIC that they do for the FL5/DE5, but for the FE1/DE4...I'm going for that, in a heartbeat.

nice. i will keep an eye out for any future releases. Do you think oil viscosity effects knock control at all? What do you think about switching to 5w-30 from 0w-20?

Not really. I think your fuel quality mixed with ambient conditions is causing your elevated k.con figures.

The old oil argument can be had for days - everyone has a different opinion on it, and that's okay. I personally have run full synthetic 5W-30 ever since I did my first oil change. I prefer it over 0W-20, upgraded turbo aside, but again: it comes down to your location, preference, and comfort level.
