Hello guys!
I just wanted to share a little mod I did to the tail lights. It's super cheap— you only need a couple of diodes and some T-wire connectors.
What I did was connect the brake lights to the tail lights, so when I brake, all the rear lights turn on.
But... will this make the brake lights stay on all the time at night? No, of course not, that's why I used rectifier diodes, so the current only flows from the brake lights to the tail lights, not the other way around.
It's a very simple mod, and I know it's not for everyone, but I like it. I haven't seen anyone else do the same thing (not saying I'm the only one who did it, though).
Please note: If you decide to replicate this mod, do so at your own risk. Be sure to disconnect the battery and exercise caution throughout the process.
I crimped two of the T-wire connectors to each diode and marked the diode direction:
Then, I applied some thermal wraps to ensure the conductors don't touch any parts of the car and cause a short:
Connect the diode to the lights: the green wire is for the brake light, and the yellow wire is for the tail light. Make sure to position the diode in the correct orientation so that the current flows only from the green wire to the yellow wire:
And that's pretty much it! Just reconnect the lights, and you're done. Here’s the final result, both with the lights on and off:
