So I'm looking to get a new car and one of my options is a new CTR. Unfortunately there aren't any for sale in the twin cities that are not on summer tires, and given the recent weather I didn't think it would be a good idea to try and test drive one. Does anyone in the area have a FL5 with winter tires that I would be able to take a quick test drive in?

I'd be shocked if you found a dealer to let you test drive a car in such high demand as the CTR, winter or otherwise, so expecting someone to let you test drive theirs is a reach. I sat in mine with a salesman, on the showroom floor, for about 10 mins and checked it out while we chatted. They wouldn't even unlock it unless they knew they had a serious buyer for it. Once I was done sitting in it, they locked it back up.

I find that so bizarre that these dealers really expect people to buy I car without driving it. This is a daily driver for most people and to buy a car that you can't even test for 15 minutes is insane. What if something pops up you didn't realize until after you bought it that is a real deal breaker for you and now you hate it, or the seats just don't work for you on long drives. Also other dealers have had no problem letting me drive the direct competitors to CTR. I test drove a GRC while it was actively snowing and the dealer didn't care. That test drive was not a great experience due to the same problem as the CTR, only coming on summer tires, so I've made a similiar post in the GRC asking if any owners have snow tires and if it was possible to let me drive. Also the car I asked to test drive was not a new CTR, had been modified, and in an accident. I was not going to purchase that specific car but it's the closest one in my area.

See if you can find a used FK8 to test drive.
Are they close enough in performance and feel to the FL5? I'm sure I could at least sit in an FL5 or even a normal civic to get a feel for the ergonomics.

FK8 is close enough mechanically that if you enjoy it, you'll like the FL5 too. Seats are similar but I'd definitely try to sit in an FL5 because they are not for everyone. It took me about a week to find the right seating position.

Thanks! I will try looking for an FK8 as well.

I mean…the reason they do it is because most people who are interested in one typically are willing to buy it without a test drive. I bet a majority of the people on here did not get to or needed to test drive the car before buying; I myself included. The car is fantastic and honestly I have no regrets with buying it without ever test driving it.

Most dealers also won’t let you test drive because at the end of the day, you will also get people test driving the car without any actual intent of buying. So now the dealer has to sell a car with possibly some miles versus a dealer without any miles on the car.

Good luck with your purchase. I will say you should get on it sooner than later if possible, there are new rumors this is the last model year run…which means any MSRP deal may potentially fade away soon.

Thanks, I appreciate the info! I get that people who love the CTR and only want that car, are going to to buy it no matter what so a test drive is irrelevant. But this is still a car that is competing in a segment and price point with other competion. It doesn't matter how many youtube comparisons you watch for CTR vs GRC vs Elantra N vs GTI/R, you arnt going to know how that car fits your lifestyle and needs without driving one. Obviously I'm not trying to argue with you about test drives, and at the end of the day I know the CTR is a special car and it's the dealers decision to not offer test drives, but I likely won't purchase one without a test drive.

What is your alternative car? Just curious? M2?

You can call an Acura dealer and see if they are more flexible with a test drive.

I considered just driving a type s, but decided the seats and overall interior vibe such as sound deadening weren't close enough to CTR to make a realistic substitute. I might still try to drive one though as used ones are in my price range.

Your best bet might be to try and find a used one to take on a test drive. I did this with Carmax which was about an hour away.
