We did it! World Record 1/4 mile pass in our 10th Gen Civic Si 1.5T 10.80 @131.56. Follow along as we take our Honda back to the track and get a behind the scenes look at what it took to set this record!

Honda Track Day - Rock Falls - 7/30/2019

Last time we were out at the track about 4 weeks ago we unfortunately lost the transmission, as that has been a common failure for this car. We are working on a solution, and hope to have something sorted in the coming month or so. Previous to that, we had been out with the car and saw an 11.07, and then lost the original stock motor in the car. What we found from that failure was a damaged oil pump, and slightly bent #3 rod. Take a look at our previous recap videos for more detailed information!

Between then and now, the car has remained relatively unchanged. We swapped in a new transmission, new stock motor, modified some of the factory clutch hydraulics to remove all the delay and dampening valves from the system, and implemented an ignition cut system utilizing our AEM EMS4 to help reduce the stress on the trans when shifting the car under power.

The day started off as always, we arrived at the shop at about 6am, and finished loading the car and tools needed for the day. We then made the hour and a half long trip to our local track, Rock Falls Raceway. Once there, we set up our pits, and go over the plan for the day. A few more once overs, swapping off the transport wheels and onto the slicks, and we are off to the starting line!

First hit out of the gate, and we ripped a few of the screws off from the bottom of our factory undertray. We have had this happen a few times, as it has been on and off so many times the threads just get weak. Not a huge deal, we get the car back in the pits and Kyle jumps into action getting the car in the air and assessing the damage. A few new bolts later and we are good to go! Everyone is feeling good, the air is crisp and the track is perfect. We line up for the burnout, get the tires hot, and line up. What happens next will just set the pace for the day, Brian clicks off a 10.96 at 128mph, we did it, the car is in the 10s! As exciting as this is, we all still have our eyes on the current record run that is 10.85 @131mph made by PRL Motorsports and their shop car.

With everything falling into place, we are looking over the data and making the changes we feel will get us the next step. Four runs later the car clicks off a 10.863 at 129.67mph and we can all feel it, the car just keeps getting better! We bring it back to the pits, and let it cool down as we dig back into what we have been doing and where we have been finding success.

After the car cools down, we head back out with the few slight tweaks and the boost turned up just a little bit in hopes that's what we need! First run 11.7, next run the car cuts out, next run we pop an intercooler pipe, things seem to have hit a wall all the sudden. We bring the car back to the pits just to collect our thoughts and get the intercooler pipe fixed and ready to go back out there.

Now is the time, the day is starting to get a bit hotter, and the tires have a decent amount of heat in them. Its do or die! We get to the line, and boom an 11.06, we are back baby! We are all feeling good, we check pressures and temps, get the car turned around right away and ready to stage, we can all feel it, oh and also, we turned the boost controller all the way up(That should do it, right?)!

Brian lines up, gets on the two-step, and loads up the car. As it leaves the line, you can just tell, this is the run. The car grabs second and just goes, harder and faster than it ever seems to have done before! The 1/8 mile speed is up and as he crosses the line the board blinks 131mph, and in what feels like an eternity it then blinks to a 10.80! We did it, we finally got to our goal of the current quickest ET in the 10th Gen Civic Si 1.5T platform, and boy did it feel good. We set out to do this on a stock motor, stock ECU (Thanks Ktuner!) and no additional power adders as we felt that doing it this way would be most representative of how a customer was going to build his car, and we thought it would be important to show just how capable they are when built right!

On the 10.80 run, we actually had a slower 60ft than we have had on a few other runs, so although happy we are never content. We let the car cool down, reviewed some video, ate some Chex-mix, and took a breather. With a few small changes, we decided to head back out to see if we could better that run, as packing it up and going home just didn't sound all that fun. It was getting later in the day, the air was getting fairly warm and the track fairly hot. Sadly all of these factors just lead to the car not wanting to put out a better pass for the day. But oh well, we had done it, we set out a goal and we hit it.

Could not be more proud of the team, as this was not easy, nor did it come without a tremendous amount of work from many individuals. We made a deal with Kyle, our lead mechanic, that if we made the record run and the car was still in one piece that we would let him drive it. Kyle has his own Turbo D-Series EG hatch, so he is no stranger to turbo Hondas. He hops in, and second run out clicks off a 10.90 @ 130mph! So awesome to see that the car we built is not only fast, but consistent and great to drive even for a person jumping in for the first time.

Now that we have accomplished the goals we set out at the beginning of the year, we will have to go back to the drawing board and see just what we can come up with next! We are excited to see where we can take this little 1.5T L15B7, and the 10th Gen Civic Si chassis. What do you think we should do next?

This record was set with:
Stock Shortblock
Stock Crank
Stock Pistons
Stock Rods
E85 Fuel
