The 2022 Honda Civic Si is here and let’s get right to it, it looks absolutely fantastic.

The 2022 Honda Civic Si will only be available as a four-door sedan meaning you can’t have it with the regular Civic hatchback design. It does take some bits and pieces from the old hatchback Type-R though and one of the more important ones is the fantastic 6-speed manual transmission.

Honda isn’t playing around here and they’re really doing their part in saving the manuals by making it the only option for the new 2022 Si.

Another feature carried over is the Type R's rev-matching feature, which some people like and some don’t. If you’re not a fan of it, no need to worry, it can still be turned off completely. The 2022 Honda Civic Si is powered by the same turbocharged 1.5-liter I-4 as before, however it now puts out 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque.

This in combination with a relatively light car and the six-speed manual should make for an engaging driving experience. The transmission isn’t completely the same as the old one. Honda did a bit of tweaking to shorten the shift throws by 10% and also improve the overall shift feel. The old transmission was an absolute joy to use and I look forward to seeing how this new one feels.

As we’re used to with Civics the new 2022 Si is front-wheel drive only. What about the wheels? The plantedness and visual connection to the ground? Well the Si comes standard with all-season 235/40 tires and optional summer tires all around with unique Si matte-black 18-inch rims. They don’t look too bad and I bet they’re very comfortable. But those are definitely the first to go if I bought one of these. For my personal taste, I want more connection to the ground than these wheels give me visually.

The biggest news on the inside is the 9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which are connected to a 12-speaker Bose stereo system.

You could buy the previous generation Si for as little as $26,000 and even though this new model is expected to be more expensive than that, it won’t be by much.

Are there any hardware difference between the Si and the standard 1.5T engines (cams, injectors, etc.) or is it really just a "tune"?

Thanks!
