Seems to be more along the lines of RF bleeding out from the hinged enclosure having been opened and closed several times compressing the layers and then forming a gap.

Simple idea that seemed effective at first however, the gold foil tape being added started to reflect the RF signal from the key fobs even after adding a rubber insulating barrier on the inside. Layers of just heavy-duty aluminum foil seem to do the best job so far for blocking the RF frequency...
