Hey all! We installed the Invidia R400 on a customer car last week, figured I'd drop the video here so you all can have a listen :)

Highlights:
  • 3" T304 SS
  • 3" FP Included
  • Double-resonated midpipe
  • Retains factory valve control
  • Triple Tips (Burnt Ti, Gloss Black)
  • Flanged Connections
Impressions: "bassy" start up tone, which is an R400 characteristic. Settles down to a very light-mild idle. In Comfort with the Valve closed it doesn't have the bassy tone, but with the Valve open in Sport or +R you can definitely hear the increase in sound. Very mild in Comfort, even at freeway speeds (per the customer who had a 2-hour drive home). In +R there will be cabin intrusion, but certainly a good move by Invidia to have a double-resonated midpipe on the R400 to compensate for it. The Q300 that we installed on a Type S a couple weeks back only has one resonator since the rear mufflers are much larger.

Overall, no issues with fitment and quality. Same evening he picked up a 27WON Catted Downpipe and PRL Intercooler from us, and installed it the next day in his home garage. Car got louder in both modes but still not obnoxious as he's able to use it as a family car with a baby seat in the back. Mind you, him and his wife are both massive car enthusiasts and the baby's used to other loud cars.

Thanks!

Price point makes this one a little more interesting, but not sure if I should try the resonator delete before biting the bullet

I have this exhaust and love it. Nice deep, throaty sound. There is definitely drone, but it doesn't bother me one bit. I wish the tips were welded on like the one for the FK8. The benefit is you can place the side tips where you want. I have them sitting back from the center tip.

You blurred out the speedometer, but your speed is visible on the infotainment screen. :p
Darn Waze! Late night editing, missed that detail :p

We have the stock exhaust on our DE5 right now with an RV6 Catted DP, and the stock exhaust can be made louder with a res delete, but they don't have the deep tone/rumble of a 3" system with mufflers designed to sound that way.

Everyone's perception of drone will vary a bit, but what I can say from having both cars, the R400 on the FK8 was notorious for a boomy/drone cabin, whereas the FL5 and DE5 with the introduction of a Valve have certainly helped improve the system so it can be daily friendly for most people.

Kinda hard to hear the noise in the drive by clips, on a scale of 1-10, how loud is it? I'm used to the function werk exhaust on my old 24 sport. Thought it had the right amount of bass and wasn't a fart canon. This seems like a solid daily exhaust but I can't tell if it's loud enough for me.

Thank You for the support! We've got a number of orders open with Invidia USA and their main distributor to send out to customers :)

We'll send you an update as soon as yours is on the way /Tracking.

I have the Q300 on my DE5 and it's loud enough for me from a volume perspective, while also maintaining a pleasant tone. I'm considering adding a downpipe at some point for a bit more "rasp"- and volume.

The R400 is louder than the Q300, with smaller mufflers.

In any case, you won't be able to extract volume from a YouTube video... unless there's a scientific comparison video where they measure decibels in a controlled way that's consistent across all the exhausts they test.

In other words, good luck lol. You're stuck with opinions from randos on the Internet.

I have both systems, it does sounds good but the drone is really bad. I had tried it with no resonator, resonator or double resonator and drone just gets worst. Price is good and descent compared to other exhaust system.

Bought a decibel meter a few days ago :)

We have a FL5/DE5 meet at the shop on the 21st, and that'll be a great opportunity for me to measure one stock car, plus go around to each car with a modified setup and get readings.

Some questions for more context:

1) You have the Invidia R400 and Q300 on your FL5? As far as I know, Invidia USA didn't bring in any Q300's yet for the FL5 but we made a request for them to bring in 10 for us after the boom in popularity of their DE5 Q300, once we posted the video. The FL5 Q300 is in transit. Link

2) Are you running an aftermarket Downpipe, and if so which one is it?

3) Are you running an aftermarket Rear Motor Mount?

Invidia used My Fl5 to get their Exhaust made for this type R generation. At the moment I have the R400 on the car. The reason they didn't bring the Q300 for the Fl5 is because with noticed with more restrictions the drone got worst. I also have the Q300 prototype in My house and decided not to used it due to the high level of drone.
All this was done when My car was completely stock with zero modifications. Now im fbo, interesting part is drone is now tolerable due to less restriction. I have the TSP Downpipe and a PRL rear motor mount
