I agree. Whenever the subject of oil comes up, there always seems to be a lot of brand-loyalty, placebo and psuedo-science like you stated. If they really wanted to see a quantifiable, measurable difference in different oils and oil change intervals, they would send their used oil in for analysis.

I agree with this. Fellow Subaru owners know all about knock :)

Sounds more psychological than anything. I doubt that refilling under any of those conditions would have any noticeable effect.
