This basically confirms that the FL5 has more room than the DE5. Any DE5 guys out there, pay attention.
Only data point left for full validation is for someone to chime in with 275 RZs. I do think they're substantially wider than the RS but "I think" isn't science lol.
^this. But also it's driven by cost factors. Replacing CCBs on a Porsche is a 5-figure affair (pretty much per wheel...). They're not a cost-efficient wear item for heavy track use- especially factoring in the possibility of chipping a rotor during a trackside wheel swap.
Occasional track use...
I got away with 19x9.5 +45 Apex VS-5RS with 275/30-19 Falken RT660+ with zero issues.
The 18x10 +40 Volk CE28N+ with 275/35-18 Bridgestone RE-71RZ led to some minor rubbing. Also note that I did end up doing the ball joints for more front camber so have -3.5 up front, -2.2 in the rear. It rubs...
There you have it. Timely vid. These are the RS, I think the RZ are even wider. I still want to hear testimonials from even FL5 owners that have tried this combo with the RZ.
That said, with my current camber it isn't bad. Just the worst of the worst bumps. I'm not taking a die-grinder to it...
That's definitely the way to go, but still comes up short vs the FL5! Where it has the advantage is RWD and power though, and they look fantastic- especially the F87 M2 CS. IMHO it's at least tied with the best looking BMW ever built (E46/E90/F80 were all lookers)- but the inputs still aren't as...
Yeah, I guess my read was wrong on G80 owners, at least ones that are enthusiast-level enough to post in forums. Good responses there and kind of echo most of the themes in this thread.
We can all be friends.
The cost factor though is concerning- and I can't remember who it was, some guy on...
Good stuff, thanks for the responses. The photography profession tracks, because I don't really have an eye for that kind of stuff and I still noticed your shots.
I think I just conflated either a post from another thread where I thought you were running Swift springs, or maybe I just missed...
Probably the most epic I've seen on this forum. You are officially in "must buy a beer" territory now.
In fact I'm wondering if this is just casual clever forum analogy vs a masterclass in socio-economic metaphor. The TPUSA vs vegan/lentil-burger stuff... is this drawn from personal experience...
A couple things:
1. your pictures are kind of fantastic. Are these just iphone shots you're talent magicking up or do you have some secret sauce like a $5k camera or something
2. some tire questions:
- what size Falkens are you running?
- do they rub at all, even over harsh bumps...
That said I swear I read somewhere someone found success running 305s... @iforgettopee was that you?
I could be off it's still early and coffee hasn't kicked in.
Sure, I get that but figured I'd try to at least close the loop. Just suffice to say this is the first (documented) data point of rubbing with this spec. It may or may not be relevant to most folks in this thread, but it is worth mentioning- and I hereby throw down the gauntlet for someone to...
They're future classics, no doubt about it. I miss my M4 dearly- but I bought it with the wrong transmission (the DCT is fine I just learned my lesson and can't live without a manual. The M4 was the unfortunate sacrifice...)
This is a great point, if you can find an F80 in great condition it may actually be a better overall fit than a G80- and you'd probably break about even on price. The F8X platform is still super capable but easily defendable from an engagement perspective vs the G8X. The suspension is not soft-...
Windshields are one of those items that it's almost guaranteed that it will never be the same as OEM. I've grown to just expect stuff like this- but I think a missing piece on an install is a dealbreaker. As are visible gouges in the dash.
Otherwise if there's no visible damage to interior, no...
I watched this last night to see how the car was set up. They didn't dive deep- but even if they did I literally couldn't understand wtf the guy was saying so I would've needed it transcribed.
Was it the mic? Or is that just a British dialect that sounds like he's wearing a scarf over his mouth?
I think in some cases it makes sense to switch. OP, yours might very well be one of them. The G80 I don't think could be argued is a "nicer car". But as @Clark_Kent very eloquently described it, it isn't as engaging to drive. With the one exception being power- if that part works for you then...
I know this will come off as elitist and I don't care, but I genuinely don't find low brow stuff like this funny (and I find a lot of things funny)... but for some reason I lol'd at this one and the last one in this thread. It's just funny and I can't put my finger on it.
I was there too...
