I do the test ; hot or cold , oil level is the same with 0-20 synthetic oil. Perhaps with ordinary, thicker oil, you would have to wait for it to settle in the pan.

If you want to keep your car for 15 years and reach 250K miles, it's worth analyzing the type of oil, otherwise not.

That is the best thing to do. I use synthetic oil on our family 2 Civic . I do my own oil changes so it is cheap.

What your owner manual say ? it is surely the 0-20 which is recommended, not the 5-30 which will probably not damage the engine in the long term, I do not know, but could increase fuel consumption, I would avoid and follow Honda's recommendation.
