I'd be curious to see if there were any gains for a stock car w/o a tune. I know, I know a tune for supporting mods is what you should do... Or is the observation that the OE intake is restrictive beyond 400hp basically saying the OE intake is fine until then?
@CTRifecta What lugs are you running? Can't make out from the pics if they are the OE - but that would seem odd since the OE are acorn seat and I thought the Enkeis are conical? Just curious, because I'm looking at a similar setup.
Having purchased and installed the MRT prefab kit - I can say it made things easier. However if the shop you take your car to can give you 304 stainless and swap out the resonator for less than $200 then I say go for it.
Overall pleased with the resonator delete. It’s not life changing, but...
Installed the resonator delete kit today. Ended up borrowing someone’s lift. Not a lot of clearance to do this on the ground with ramps / jack stands.
Install took 20min, and was pretty straight forward. I didn’t see the need to remove the pipe at the exhaust flange as in the install video...
@sashimi slip joints and clamps are pretty standard in a lot of aftermarket exhausts. To me, this is a low risk, fun Saturday morning project. That’s the great thing about modifying a car - anyone can do what interests them, based on their tastes and risk tolerance.
But yeah I’ll take my slip...
I don’t think many of us would take our cars to just any muffler shop. Maybe I’m wrong. Also, I kinda like having a project to tackle. If I have to pay a bit more to have a piece designed to fit that I can install myself - then there is value in that to me.
@Bazgab yup, that’s why I sprayed it with some high-temp exhaust coating. Once I did that it looked nice IMHO. But doesn’t really matter since it’s gonna be under the car - haha.
@HRace I got mine yesterday via UPS. It is the pipe with hanger and is indeed slip fit with pretty standard exhaust band clamps at either end. Looks like the fit will be pretty tight and secure - might add a dab of exhaust paste just in case. They just posted the install video on their site...
Got my PRL shipment today. Looks so much nicer than the plastic piece it replaces. I did take temp measurements before hand so we’ll see if there is any measurable difference. Probably does absolutely nothing… but I was curious. Next up is a turbo blanket.
I've had great experience with AWE exhausts - most recently on my MK 7.5 GTI. The slip fittings and clamps worked just fine.
However, I am gonna hold off on a full exhaust for now, since I'm inclined to keep the valve. Instead, I'm just gonna go with the MRT resonator delete.
I preordered MRT's resonator delete. Will report back how it works. It appeals to me because it basically gives the CTR the exhaust setup that the ITS has.
The primary difference between the CTR and ITS exhaust is the CTR has 2 resonators... I had an AWE exhaust on my GTI and loved it. Waiting to see what this one comes in at price wise. I like the look of the tips...
I'm genuinely happy this thread has evolved the way it has! Thanks @urbo73 for the pics. I really like the look of it and I too don't have people sit back there, I might add this to my wish list.
I'm in DC and they are in PA, so once it does ship, I assume it will arrive quickly. I'm actually eyeing the intercooler too - but was planning to hold off until their pipe kit was available and just do it all in one shot.
