  1. Ohlins DFV Road & Track Settings Discussion

I just threw these in last weekend and only got them fixed up and driving nice today, and have them set 10 clicks from max firmness. I would say it’s just a bit on the bouncy side. Reading what @tezzasaurusrex had to say, it sounds like I’m going to want to drop that to maybe an 8 and give that...
  2. Brake fluid change question

I just wanted to throw out there that G-four 335 from Project Mu is pretty much equivalent to all the top brake fluids out there, except it starts out green and becomes clearer as it absorbs moisture.
  3. Vacuum brake bleeder

You don’t need a vacuum bleeder - literally all you need is a bleeder bottle with a check valve for like $15. I pretty much never use my vacuum bleeder because it doesn’t really save you a meaningful amount of time and tends to waste more brake fluid than necessary.
  4. FL5 Swift Springs - installed now feedback / reviews?

Out of curiosity, how does one check the axle seal? What would you look for, and/or how would you go about?
  5. Dixcel Rotors

I'm hardly an expert, but I've been tracking every few months for about a year now, and I do exactly what you're talking about. On the street, I'm still running the OEM pads - my car has 10-11K miles on them, and even though it's my daily, I work from home, so the car doesn't see a ton of...
  6. How-To: Bleeding the Brakes

Assuming the FL5 is the same as the FK8, you’ll want 10 and 11MM flare nut wrenches - the front and rears are different sizes.
  7. Ohlins DFV Road & Track Settings Discussion

What is the promotion? I was just checking out your website, and it looked like standard pricing for the Ohlins R&T. https://merakiautoworks.com/products/ohlins-17-20-honda-civic-type-r-fk8-road-track-coilover-system
  8. 🚀 TRUSTALIGN - Time Attack FL5 Build Journal

@tezzasaurusrex Great build so far. I'm really interested in getting your take RE: coilovers. Looking through your whole post, it looks like you get a 25mm drop with the Tein, and it sounds like you're running 275/35/18, square. I'm a hair away from pulling the trigger on the Ohlins R&T, which...
  9. Ohlins DFV Road & Track Settings Discussion

Thank you! Great information. Are you able to adjust the “clicks” with the wheels on the car? Also, what wheels and tires are you running on all four corners? I’m trying to determine if I’ll be able to run a 275/35/18 +45 in the rear with these coilovers without rubbing. I was wondering… do you...
  10. Ohlins DFV Road & Track Settings Discussion

I appreciate your response - no worries! How would you describe the ride quality? If you’re honest with yourself, do you at all regret pulling the trigger, or is the change significant? A lot of people talk about feeling more “planted” and having more grip - what do you think? If you could...
  11. Best combined track and street pad?

And I’m just trying to add a data point, even though it sounds like you’re pretty decided. I’m just telling you… I use two different compounds, and it’s not noisy until it cleans off the first compound, which happens pretty quickly. At that point, it’s metal to metal with no transfer layer of...
  12. Best combined track and street pad?

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I regularly drive from San Diego to all the tracks in SoCal, and then I drive home. I swap my pads beforehand, then after I get home. The rotors are always bare as new, both when I arrive at track and when I get home. In fact, all the track veterans on...
  13. Best combined track and street pad?

Maybe I am misunderstanding you, but I don’t think you can really “mix” a street and track pad compound. When you put your track pads on, when cold, they simply scrape everything off your rotor to the point where they’re basically clean. After a few minutes of driving around, there’s no transfer...
  14. Best combined track and street pad?

I don’t think what you describe has anything to do with the pad compound - that’s what my drive home from the track is like every time. Once you leave the track and start driving home, there’s not even remotely enough heat to bring a track pad up to temp, so it’s just going to grind against your...
  15. Best combined track and street pad?

I agree with this. I went through the same thing last year. I wanted to be able to just have one set of pads that was great at everything, but there’s no such thing. When you drive track pads on the street, even an entry level track pad, they’ll never get warm enough to transfer pad material to...
  16. How-To: Bleeding the Brakes

Guys, just follow the procedure in the manual. It’s all laid out for you, according to distance of all the components on the car. I’m not sure why you would do it the “old fashioned” way, or why you would not follow factory procedure. Start at the front driver and go clockwise - front driver...
  17. Flushing Brakes

So, just some thoughts from someone who tracks their CTR and does their own brake work. First, I wouldn't use a pressure bleeder if I were you - not only does it not really make the job any easier, but I find that you tend to use way more brake fluid than is necessary. When you're using...
  18. Ohlins DFV Road & Track Settings Discussion

Hey @sugarl4nd - do you think when you have some time you might be able to answer some more questions about your Ohlins experience? I was hoping you might be able to go into some more details about your settings, because your initial post with your street/track click settings is not super clear...
