for anyone wondering there is another thread that contains an audible recording for this groan sound
https://www.civicxi.com/forum/threads/honda-civic-type-r-fl5-weird-noise-when-turning.61383/
i am going to be looking closer into this and will follow up as soon as i can for reference
i have this exact same groaning sound
2025 zero suspension mods, just some basic bolt ons
I have near zero information about a root cause here and i am very curious to know, it has me a lil nervous
yea you're right, upon further testing this groan occurs even with medium steering force, also drove the car until temps and the groan was repeatable at temperatures as well, i had never heard it return under temps yet but yea i repeated it as a test
not awesome
no recalls listed for my VIN...
during a cold start - while wheel is pinned all the way right pulling out of my driveway
slight deeper pitch groaning noise observed
goes away after we reach temps.
now this is probably just EPS and is most likely of no concern but just wondering anyone else heard this?
just a quick sanity...
i revved into 2nd with no error code a while back did a full leakdown compression the whole 9, pulled the oil pan looked at rods bearings. literally everything you can imagine it was an absolute mission, car stored no codes, there was zero physical damage, i wouldn't worry about it too much the...
I recently picked up a custom tune from Jester for my FL5, i was previously running the Hondata 91 basemap (california)
I didn't really realize beacuse I am on a PRL RMM, but the hondata 91 basemap was ROUGH by comparison to the new custom tune. now that I am on the custom tune the NVH and...
Stock ECU calibration doesn't have any retard on ignition timing you won't get burbles without a tune.
Downpipe will add some sound though just won't be burble.
As far as the fake engine noise, you can eliminate it by using individual mode, it allows you to configure R mode settings on an...
saw the notification that someone had replied here, just in case anyone is experiencing this paired with any type of concern, this is what I have checked and determined that there is no issue
- '25 SGP CTR
- i've experienced this exact noise since brand new but have also had a higher load event...
if you are really blasting, the solution is simply to shift later
if you are really trying to hit it fast it has the propensity to grind unless you get some thicker mtf
starts to go away though i'm at 7k miles happened a couple of times, one time 2nd gear flat out said "no" during an otherwise...
the noise is very possibly wastegate rattle.
running VP91 (apparently its more strictly regulated for octane level) supplemented with 1 gallon of VP101.
0 degree knock retard on all cylinders. which at this point is just yet another dataset that suggest zero physical damage to the car.
part of...
yep i have this i recently had a near money shift, just barely below redline. been updating my personal thread on what's been / being done to address/diagnose/fix as needed but yep this noise is exactly what I am experiencing. I'm glad someone was able to capture this via video as i have tried 4...
Ive recorded the sound 4 individual times but unfortunately the two phones I have have very poor mic input quality, it's not intelligible from the recordings, you can't really distinguish it. Too much white noise terrible microphones.
Yea I've also been advised that I need to inspect the forced induction side to confirm the turbo bearing.
I'm dumping on this thing it'll get back up and running. Sucks but I love the car and I learned my lesson.
Will likely end up doing
Turbo bearing check
Pending result, bore scope to...
yea custom tune was one of the things i was considering, smoother would be better the basemap is a blanket when what i need is a jacket so to speak
will have pan dropped and check rod+bearing health within next 1-2 days. result to follow
at this point this is for science and my ability to...
Not launching from a dig. Just rolling
Motor mounts were checked, they are good torque to spec.
I was pistol gripping third to fourth and I was running it hard as hell so I palmed the shifter into second it's clearly user error no debate there
dropping pan checking for spun bearing or bent...
