Sort of. Kind of. Maybe.
In a way, knock control is a reflection of gas quality. But Honda's artificial knock rise is independent of octane used. They do it as a "safety" feature, if that makes sense.
My 10th gen had this "feature" built-in and it sucked. I use 93 octane and that timing...
So, I saw a 2022 EX-L hatch listed online that had a ridiculous markup on it. They were pricing it at more than $10,000 over sticker. I chuckled to myself that no one would buy it. Well here's a screenshot of that very listing today...
Yep. Some sucker bought it.
Basically Honda uses a strategy that artificially increases knock control at high rpm. What this does is protect the engine by retarding timing. The problem is, it also reduces power. If you use high quality, high octane gas there's no need for this babysitting from Honda.
Yeah. You have to understand something. JR's base tunes are available for free for EVERYONE who buys a KTuner unit. He has to make those tunes super conservative, hence the "base" tune. It's the third party guys like Derek and Vega that push the envelope a bit more with their OTS tunes. And for...
Great job JR.
If you guys do tune, don't forget to add your car to our community tuning database...

It will be a great place to check out people's tune builds, and long term, tune reliability.
See, I don't think any of us are haters. A lot us that love our 10th gens were hoping the 11th was more of an evolution and not a design language shift.
Just because we're not fans of the new look doesn't mean that we don't realize it's a fine car. Like I've said before, buying a car is a...
Outstanding. That's a seriously big improvement over your first Dragy post.
Any changes in the CVT mode used for that run? Or just D and floor it? Big difference not only in 0-60 but 0-30.
Hopefully we'll be getting some more tuned 11th gen peeps adding their cars here.
Bottom line though, too much stock is put into 0-60 and 1/4 miles times. There's so many variables from driver skill to road/track conditions, temps, humidity, wind, how much gas is in the tank etc. etc. etc...
I'm not a huge fan of the more sedate styling and the loss of some amenities sucks...
As crazy as this sounds, manufacturer power numbers are sometimes "inaccurate" for a bunch of reasons. Maybe Honda under reported the power in the new Si so they can publish higher numbers for the upcoming more expensive Integra even though the reality is both cars will have the same actual...
Sure of course, that's the reality.
But there is some truth in the saying. For example, my old 1st gen Integra. For a car with only 113 hp and not much torque it was still seriously fun to wring out to redline through the first couple gears. It helped that it probably weighed like 2300 some...
