Here's my usual daily mileage driving the Civic e:Hev.
These are 65 mpg in US units; commuting half in (italian, unruly) city traffic, half on hilly roads up to 55 mph.
On summer months, when the rush hour is not that crazy, I come back home at 69 mpg; worst case scenario, happily going past...
Maybe you can make a plug and play harness with some relays in it, in order to leave both ECUs installed into the car and switch between them using a button.
Maybe those DE5 don't show problems because people hasn't started to throw aftermarket stuff to them :)
Joking aside, what baffles me is the lack of any real test data from aftermarket vendors regarding how their products affect airflow through the car stacked coolers.

Since 2019, any official lap record attempt on this circuit for production cars have to be done with ECE type-approved vehicles without modifications.
This means that Honda couldn't install any roll cage in the car, unless it was homologated as a road legal part into its type-approval EU file.
Perhaps I should raise that bar even more.
