I don't honestly know right now, but everything is pretty middle ground if not slightly edged toward "wider."
You see what happens when I let it center itself, though. It snaps onto that one portion.
The problem with adjusting the gate spacing and such-and-such now means I'd have to rip apart...
I screwed on the original knob last week just to see the difference between weights, and sadly the sound was still there.
The knob height is like on 3 right now. I might set it lower later.
It's not large, I can guarantee you that. Seems like it shouldn't actually affect anything, but of course I did not engineer the shifter.
Once you see the photo, you'll understand better.
That's the thing though, it's not the slamming that's causing it. It's the natural re-centering. So unless you are applying force to resist its centering tension, the sound should be occurring.
I'll have to ask permission from the person who has tried this already or he can send them to you, but he sent me a picture of basically a black rubbery item that fits around the spring's end so that it slaps on there with more of a thud/thwack than a clang. There is still a sound, but it seems...
Besides improving my actual shifting maneuver (though I'm too consciously aware of that), per another user I am going to try some silicone vacuum hosing to see if it'll muddle the sound some.
I'm not yet sure if I actually need it to be quieter or if I just need it to not be as high of a...
Feel free to close this thread if it holds no merit.
My mom is purchasing an EX and I inquired about when the next generation Honda lineup is arriving. He said likely in a couple of years, but when the Type R is up he said he heard they are phasing that out and bringing back the S2000.
Anyone...
So my newest video is going to explain my current developments. Surely everyone can hear the sound now that I have it open and I explain what's causing it (and maybe if you go back to my other videos you'll be able to isolate exactly what to listen for), but I want to know why nobody else can...
So, this may be an issue for me. I have a torque wrench that simply wasn't clicking for me when I set and used it. I think it caused me to overtighten some of my stuff. That means I may have to redo the process, but I don't know why it wasn't clicking at the proper setting.
I think I'm way...
The sound may be a click and not an actual squeak, but it is more like a slam, is very high-pitched, and I don't hear it in any other videos that have this shifter. I'm about to road-trip with my mom, and unless I'm diligent about that gear shift, I know once she hears it twice she'll ask...
Okay, here is another video. I'm playing it through my headphones and can hear it plain as day. If you want a reference as to when the sound occurs or when I shift into third gear, I think the waveform of my video file should give you a good reference (this is completely unaltered):
(I think...
Okay, with some excessive force I was able to get it fitting and click. It works again! Thanks!
The last thing to resolve is the squeal sound. I’ll record again later today from a camera better than the iPhone one lol, and see if it picks it up. Though I understand to diagnose it properly I’ll...
Okay, so I was able to pull the thing open. Strangely though, I can't plug the thing back into its socket! I'm forcing it, jimmying it, trying to press the tab, lots of different things. I went at it for ten minutes straight.
I think something is just overly... wrong here. Maybe it was plugged...
Well, clearly that's what I did to install the shifter the first time. It just didn't pop out this last time, so I thought "Maybe I'll break it if I keep trying," and stopped after four attempts. I will certainly try it again though, as I'm glad you don't have to disassemble everything else...
Oh, and ACUITY, several times I tried to pry out that center area that has the cigarette lighter with everything still in, and it wouldn't come out. Are you certain that everything doesn't have to come out for you to get to it? (like I know you obviously don't have to pull out the console, but I...
Thanks, but right now the knob height is on 3, the gate spacer is very high up (not right at the top but close), and the other thing is at 4 (forget what the other one is called). I don't have a problem with the stiffness, I was just saying that I was surprised how stiff it actually was...
