Thats a great question, but not one we can accurately answer. The ID of the MAF housing is the major factor for the proper tune so we would need to know the exact ID of the PRL Race MAF to answer this.
We will be provided a SS lock nut (maybe this is what you are referring to?) that the boot locks onto. Our design will be used on both the Type R and non-Type R Models.

Nice Find! The change in Inner Diameter for their Inlet Pipe was pretty minimal. Our target change is much more drastic so it will be interesting to see what we can get out of it.
I can see your logic here, but I can also state that nearly any way to reduce pressure delta from air filter to compressor inlet will help the turbo despite the size.

Quick Update - We are making progress and taking the next big step to making this project real. We've been able to retain all the critical features that makes the installation and overall experience with the part straightforward and simple.

The drop-in turbo is going to be your biggest bang for the buck, but if you are looking for best power out the gate I would say turbo and downpipe, then pick up the rest of the exhaust later.
