Word out of Honda Australia is no factory engineered LE swansong for the FL5 here. Just a local edition similar to the European one with extra carbon fibre bits and stickers added on.
With pressure in Japan to fill outstanding orders can't see an LE like the FK8 happening unless they did a...
The FK8 LE send off didn't have any more power but at least we got a yellow paintjob, different suspension, forged wheels, R spec tyres, weight reduction and they unashamedly tuned it to go fast around Suzuka.
Yep pretty much everything has an Australia Tax on it. Housing is insanely expensive too. You'll find some exceptions but generally we're a relatively affluent, but small, captive audience who historically have paid overs for most things.
All stock is owned by Honda Australia and dealers are just agents. So while they won't transport a car from Perth to Sydney, there should be enough stock in larger east coast cities like Melbourne and Sydney. I believe current wait times are in weeks, not months. They actually had an oversupply...
You definitely won't be able to import it but depending how long you're planning to stay brand new Australian spec FL5s are readily available. We're apparently even getting boost blue later this year!
They've definitely shaken up the EV market and put downwards pressure on those prices. But for ICE we're still seeing large increases at the bottom of the market, even for Chinese brands like MG.
MG jacked up the price of their MG3 when the new model landed last year. MG are still the cheapest...
North America overall is a far stronger market in percentage terms than Australia is and probably will ever be for Honda. I believe there was a real question about whether or not Honda would even stay in the Australian market.
The decision to stay was justified on lower sales but at a lot...
Try $45k CAD but our base Civic is a hybrid. The Type R is $66.5k CAD.
We only got ~1500 FK8 including just 20 LEs when Canada got nearly twice that.
I suspect the reasons for the change is we now have a fixed price non negotiable agency model where Honda Australia owns and sells all the cars...
I could honestly go for just two including an FL5.
Subaru Outback XT - Currently have one so am biased but it just does so much with a turbo kick. Great interstate hauler. Camping with light off roading. Shopping, rubbish removal, etc. Had to buy a new washing machine recently and it easily...
Japan got 200 of them.
I suspect one of the limitations in straying too far from the donor car for a proper limited edition for global release is the increasing regulations that apply to new cars. Up the power and for some countries you'd need to get full emissions retesting done.
Not worth it...
https://www.motor1.com/news/682680/honda-civic-type-r-moose-test/
Given the FL5 has more weight, a longer wheelbase and wider tyres than the FK8 it shouldn't come as any surprise that in the moose test the FL5 managed 74km/h while the pre facelift FK8 (2017) did it at 78km/h.
On a flowing...
They really have outdone themselves with each iteration from the original FK8 to the facelift to the LE to the FL5. Improvements in small areas that you didn't even think needed work.
Cup 2s, forged wheels, recalibrate the ADS and adding lightness are a given. Not sure if a power jump would...
As someone who's extensively tracked a Hyundai i30N hatch (and briefly run an Elantra N on a skidpan) it's good to see the brand get some love for what they're doing.
Definitely not as special as a Type R but 90% of one for 70% of the price (yep a "Kirkland" car). Plus it gets everything right...
Usually we in Australia get the raw end of this sort of thing but it seems we've lucked out. No doubt due to a combination of being RHD, our proximity to Japan and the fact that all sales are direct with Honda at MSRP (dealers are just agents for Honda).
Our sole dealer in a city of half a...
And I'm pretty sure you'll find the Cup 2s on the FL5 are the OEM Connect version which have a treadwear rating of 240 compared to 180 for the LE so even more impressive.
Although they were able to drop the suspension to Comfort mode and no doubt keep everything else dialled up, something you...
We've got a fairly large Hyundai N community in Australia with hundreds and hundreds of people doing track days. The thing is after nearly 5 years you just don't hear of engine problems with stock cars, even ones like mine that see the track regularly.
They definitely lack the extra engineering...
I'm still surprised Australia is getting 600-700 in our 2023 allocation.
Guess with Honda selling through an agency model they can set the price and how much profit they make directly. Plus perhaps being RHD and closer to Japan there are some other efficiencies.
The problem, as always, is that the FK8 provided such a great platform that working within what you can realistically do for a factory hot hatch and maintain regulatory compliance and warranty there just aren't massive gains to be made.
FK8 LE - Engineered as a relatively exclusive limited run...
Another vote for keep the LE if it's not a daily driver, but if it is then the FL5 would just get my vote.
There will hopefully be an FL5 LE but who knows what the chances are of getting a hold of one and how much they will cost.
