Well figured I’d make my first forum post- considering I found an FL5 at MSRP here in the Pacific Northwest. When the FL5 was originally released I knew it was a bucket list car considering I already wanted an FK8 after driving my friends car when they were first released. I also had several Hondas growing up with some being fully built eg hatches. Fast forward a bit I waited to jump on one as every FL5 had absurd mark ups. Up here in Seattle it was ranging from 10-20k depending on the color/dealership at that time. Nearing the end of 25’ I started hearing that the FL5 would “stop production” and that that this maybe the end of the R chassis.. uh oh.
At the end of 24’ I purchased an Si(25’) in white as my work wanted me to travel a ways for our next project and my 2010 Yaris wasn’t something I wanted to commute on i5 those distances for the next couple years. As mentioned R prices were still hot and I wanted something “similar” to the R while having the new design of the 11th gen civic which looks amazing so I settled for the Si and knew I’d step up eventually.. Now back at the “uh oh” moment it’s been officially one year and I wasn’t fully satisfied with the Si- only compaired to the R. I do feel the Si has its place but I wanted the engineering and power that I once had with my old Honda knowing the platform has so much potential. I refused to pay any mark up for the FL5 and wanted to be patient to get a SGP or the CW. My daily searching I saw plenty of Type Rs for sale but nothing close enough or at MSRP which then lead me to buy used, find something with minimal miles and enjoy. This lead me to Portland- my old dealership that I had been a technician at and my home town! They had a slightly used 23’ SGP with 10k~ miles at MSRP… I figured if this got me my FL5 this maybe my chance plus I was able to test drive it which was a nice to feel it out and I knew I had to have one. When I arrived back at the dealership I really started to look the car over pretty much sold on leaving with it. But I noticed some off putting issues. The previous owner had a stain in the passenger seat maybe coffee or soda? The firewall insulation/sound mat looked like mice may have gotten to it which that leads to nothing fun ever and the rear taillights also has water inside them.. I was in a tough spot.. FL5 SGP at a price I could go for- plus the FL5 was “going away”. At this time I’m back from my test drive and I was approached by one of the salesman and was told they had a BBP(25’) on the show room floor at MSRP and the markup was taken off this morning… BBP wasn’t on my top choices but brand new MSRP was my goal and not having anyone’s issue would be preferred… after looking at it and realizing this is a no brainer. I have the option for new, MSRP- potential no new FL5s… this is it. So here we go the new daily!
