I'm in Canada and put my deposit a good month ago. I'm second in line at that dealer.
It's all dealer's rules so call around. One wanted 2K deposit and was vague about length of the list, the other wanted 1K and was transparent.
I'd do my research for US dealers, some had less extreme markups at thousands of dollars instead of 10s of thousands. Dealer here told me they're not allowed to mark up MSRP.

Don't even bother with a deposit for a markup. When the car launches, just look for some dealer some flyover state. Thats how lot of guys bought their launch cars at msrp.

Wow...that's insane markup! It seems to be still a year away! Feel bad for anyone that has to deal with that.

I might buy one but I am not going to put anything down and preorder until this car is fully unveiled. So far it looks impressive…. Didn’t like it at first but I change my tune

Yeah in Virginia my best luck so far is 1k deposit and 8-10k markup. Pulling the trigger once that camo is pealed off. My current daily just isn't reliable so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
