  1. Service Intervals

https://www.honda.co.uk/cars/owners/manuals-and-guides/honda-owners-manuals.html UK serv Honda UK owners manuals have traditional mileage/elapsed time maintenance charts for CTR's and others. I'll be following this, except engine oil changes every 5k miles. Also note 5W-30 oil is okay.
  2. Installing FK8 Spare Tire Kit in FL5

  3. Installing FK8 Spare Tire Kit in FL5

I bought an ebay spare and found I needed a hub spacer on the front for brake clearance. Amazon had a 5mm thick spacer, which works great and leaves enough stud threads to secure the lugnuts.
  4. Fl5 transmission

Swap out fluid for Amsoil MTL or GM Sycromesh. The oil change alone normally improves shifting. Look for metal bits in the drain pan. I found dog teeth in a prior pre-owned car's tranny oil, which explained shifting reluctance.
  5. 11th gen Glass Type

You can thank the Federal Government for us not having solar glass in the USA. The automakers were all set to install this year's ago, but a Florida sheriff petitioned Washington DC and solar glass was banned. The reasoning had to do with reflectivity and the need for police to see into cars...
  6. Lug Nut Torque for FL5 - Owners Manual Wrong!

Honda UK has a CTR specific owners manual online in .pdf format. It shows the correct wheel nut torque and alternate engine oil viscosities for example. I refer to this first. Note European CTR's have folding mirrors, parking sensors, etc. we don't get, but are covered in their manual.
  7. Road noise

Not sure what folks are running, but forged wheels can be noticeably louder than stock alloys. My road noise about doubled switching to lightweight wheels vs. stock alloys on a CRX (reused same tires). Coarse road surfaces in AZ generate tons of noise. The CTR is quieter than my old FR-S...
  8. Fl5 transmission

Though I haven't done this in my CTR yet, either GM Sycromesh or Amsoil MTL made shifting smoother in my previous cars ('99 Civic Si, '04 Acura TL 6MT, '04 S2000, Scion FR-S). Winter shifting was way better and no problems in hot weather. No transmission durability issues over the 500k...
  9. New 24 CTR Factory Paint Defect?

Respray's used to be bad. However, with factories going to water based paints, 2 part urethanes applied by body shops could be better. 8th gen Civic clearcoats are an example of bad water base paint. Hopefully they've gotten better.
  10. 1.5t high oil level am I being paranoid?

Oil dilution normally occurs below 40F ambient and where engine doesn't get to full operating temp long enough. I had this problem years ago with a cast iron engined Jeep, cold winter, and 4 mile commute. Honda engines warm up way faster than that beast. I agree the dipstick gage is the worst.
  11. Model Year 2025 Civic Type R FL5 Shipments from Japan

Bought my 2024 CTR in February. Sales manager said all USA Honda's come with 2 years free maintenance. Said it is a Honda program, not a dealer initiative. That being said, I've always done all my own maintenance (except tire mount/balance) and will continue to do so. My quality control is...
  12. Stock alignment question.

My past experience is significant tire wear in normal driving with added negative camber. Front grip increased, but car was a bit tail happy. Toe-in has to be reset as well. I recommend picking up some 3/4" thick plywood at Home Depot or the like. I bought 2'x4' sheets and cut them down into...
  13. OEM exhaust material?

400 series "stainless" or "corrosion resistant steel" is magnetic. 400 series is generally stronger than non-magnetic 300 series stainless. 400 series can be heat treated to improve strength, were 300's cannot. 300 (302, 304, etc.) series is what you see in commercial kitchens...
  14. I did something with my FL5 this morning that I’m sure nobody has done before!

Many curvy roads in open grazing range out west. So add cattle, along with rock slide debris, oncoming cars in your lane, etc., to the potential fun around every blind corner.
  15. FL5 Valve Stem Part # / Will they work on ITS wheels?

ITS wheels use a straight stem. Ninety degree CTR stems won't work. Google the respective wheel images and you'll see the differences.
  16. FL5 F1 Exhaust System

It will be loud when the valve opens (one resonator and straight pipe), and restrictive otherwise (right angle bends). Depends on if you value your hearing and how much you want the police to notice. The system has a lot of welds, which can be prone to cracking if really titanium. I'm a...
  17. Nuts in my air box !!!

One other cars, I've had the luck with placing chicken wire screen (1/4" spacing) over the intake, which I bought at Home Depot. I also covered the trunk cabin air exits after finding a nest inside the trunk. The screen wire is fine, so minimal affect on airflow. Also galvanized against...
  18. What's in the Box (Heat Sink)??? FL5 Turbo Inlet Pipe Uncovered.

It's a Helmholtz resonator, designed to reduce intake noises. It's tuned to work at specific frequencies. I removed all (4?) resonators on my Scion FR-S intake, but almost needed earplugs at some rpm's during wide open throttle. I added one back, which fixed the loudest issue and still left...
  19. FK8 Struts/Shocks on FL5

After installing the ITS damper module, the ride stopped bothering me. Much more comfortable in daily driving. Thirty minute job vs. hours for a suspension swap.
