I received and installed the ITS ADS module this week. I ordered it 3/9 from OEMAcuraParts.com, but was willing to wait on backorder. Installation was less than 1/2 hour all together.
I'm very happy with the results which is about one click less than the CTR module, such that my Sport is now...
80 ft-lb is incorrect for Type R's and may have very bad consequences! Honda UK has a specific Type R manual showing 95 ft-lb. Type R's have 14mm wheel studs. All other Honda's I've owned use 12mm studs, hence 80 ft-lb torque for those.
Definitely dealer add-on.
I bought an OEM set online. The set includes locking lugs, the key, small black zippered pouch, and a key number card.
With any luck the dealer has your key, pouch, and id card.
Use 91 or higher if you intend to keep the car long term. Detonation is hard on head gaskets.
I've had premium fuel only cars for the past 25 years. It always amazes me to pull in behind an exotic car at the gas pumps and see them pumping regular, saving pennies on a six figure car.
My Acura...
I remember driving American cars from the '60's and '70's where the clutch engaged right at the top of the travel. I've owned Honda's since the '80's and the clutches normally engaged right off the floor, to the point of compressing the carpet pad a bit when new.
If you slack the power and rev...
Honda's don't use hydraulic lifters, so they recommend a tappet clearance check. With the exception of a couple Honda Fits we owned, this has been a clearance check with minimal adjustments. In my experience Honda's B, F, J, K engines never out of spec more than .001" after 100K+ miles of...
Honda UK has a Type R specific owners manual in .pdf format. The maintenance schedule is in a traditional mileage/elapsed time format on pages 542-543.
UK Type R's have more features than USA versions, so don't get excited about folding mirrors and the like.
Helps prevents excessive oil coking in the intake tract, which is common on some direct injected engines. German cars are known for this problem. Honda reportedly less so.
My 2 cents: Don't take it in if the engine runs and sounds fine. Most engines have over rev margin, though not the best idea to test it.
Valve float and con rod stretch/failure will occur at extreme rpm's. Loss of compression, knocking, and holes in the block may result.
Youtube channel "NAUS" had a leaky hatch. He shows where water was entering under the hinge attachments. I noticed my car looked the same as his (pop-rivet not flush), so I caulked around the hinge brackets with DAP Dynaflex 230 clear.
I live in the desert, so no rain yet to test my fix. Good...
Tirerack's Spec's section gives the wheel width range for each tire. Click on a specific tire and a Spec tab normally shows up.
I would also check your exiting front tire clearance to the inner fenders at extreme lock. A larger diameter tire may scuff the inner fenders in parking lot...
From experience: Don't apply painters tape, duct tape, or similar to your cars exterior! The sun reacts with the tape glue. The tape will be extremely difficult to remove without damaging the paint finish.
I've used both Amsoil MTF and AC Delco in previous cars. Both were way better in cold winter weather. Just a little better than factory fill when hot.
Transmission's go through a break-in period too and I'd recommend not forcing shifts at first.
Torsen type LSD's do not need special LSD...
I opted to turn off data sharing in the menus.
Yes, Honda has the ability to capture driving data. Hopefully my menu selection disabled that.
I'm not aware of Honda selling data to insurance companies, unlike the widely reported GM issues.
I think you will find the SST more durable than Ti. Welding and stress relieving Ti is challenging compared to SST. If not done right, Ti welds will crack and the cracks spread rapidly.
SST can be repaired at custom exhaust shops, unlikely for Ti.
Sound wise, Ti definitely rings different...
An accessory trunk mat hides the spare tire pretty good.
I bought a "spare tire kit" off eBay. Doesn't quite fit (needed a 5mm spacer for the front hub), but good enough to get me home. The inflator kit also fits inside the spare, along with the jack and wrench. I made my own hold down...
Metal belt CVT's (Honda uses them) rely on friction between the belt and pulleys. Unlike a geared transmission, CVT's are always generating metal wear as the belt grabs/releases the pulleys.
Honda used to recomend frequent (30k miles) CVT oil changes for this reason. Probably a good idea to...
I've known a couple guys who started playing the Lemon Law card (not Honda's). Dealer and factory reps immediately lawyered up and stop conversing. It's a bit like bringing a nuke to a minor skirmish. Sometimes it's warranted. The mention will definitely get their attention.
If the Type S doesn't feel fast in the sporty modes, I suspect it's running 87 (or lower) octane fuel. Typical for used car dealers from my experience.
