  1. Avoiding LSPI

Use premium fuel and change your oil at least every 5k miles with oil meeting or exceeding owners manual specs. Low octane fuel and oil blow-by increase pre-ignition risks.
  2. Oil Change Intervals - Low Mile Drives

The online UK Honda Owners Manual lists service intervals by time and miles. If you make many short winter trips where the oil doesn't get to 180degF, I'd recommend the severe schedule.
  3. TCU not connected

I read somewhere 2024 USA owners have 3 years of free updates. I'm not sure about other model years.
  4. TCU not connected

I updated my car GPS maps before removing the module. I'll reconnect it briefly before my free GPS updates expire, otherwise not needed.
  5. TCU not connected

Since your in the UK, I'd recommend warming the interior prior to removing the dash panel. This lowers the chance of breaking the clips. If Honda can track us via the TCU, so can the government. If you seen videos of hackers taking control of cars, the TCU module is their way in.
  6. Looking for a new Civic, but can't decide which one.

My wife has a new CRV Sport Hybrid 2WD and it's satisfyingly quick, both off the line and high speed passing. We get 40mpg highway (75-80mph cruise speed) and 45mpg in town. Nowhere near as fast as my CTR, but much better than our old 2014 CRV.
  7. Turn off Location sharing (Data Sharing )

It takes less than 1/2 hour to disconnect the telematics unit, then Honda will not have your data. Remove the dash panel on the forward side of the touch screen to get at the unit. I found sitting in the passenger side provides better access.
  8. JDM Euro Honda Dual Horn Set

I installed Fiamm dual horns on my FR-S and they sounded like the above clip. I had the bumper off anyway to replace the intake trumpet (due to a rodent problem). Fiamm horns were easy to source (Amazon or eBay) and much louder than the weak Subaru beep-beep horn on the FR-S. They were still...
  9. Strange Outer CV Boot Noise

Dealers shouldn't charge diagnosis fees for legit warranty concerns. If dealer management doesnt refund, contact Honda corporate. My thought is a bad CV axle. Bad CV joints usually sound like steel balls clacking while turning sharp, but those are under load. The axle in your video appears...
  10. Buying type r out of state. Please help me not get scammed again. When and how do I know I'm getting a legit deal and when to begin the financing?

When I bought mine a couple years ago, the dealer (Germain Honda, AZ) said most of their CTR sales were to out of state customers. One difference in AZ vs. CT is AZ dealers want a bank check. CT dealers wanted an electronic bank transfer. Not sure what payment is accepted here for out of state...
  11. Would you buy a new type r that was damaged during transit?

Too many parts replaced. Had a similar experience years ago and later noticed the unit body "frame rails" were tweaked. Luckily that car continued to drive okay, but that was when tall sidewall tires and soft suspension could mask alignment issues.
  12. Heat Barrier Tape - Yes or No

I've used Thermo-Tec heat barrier on various cars with measurable improvement. It has an aluminum foil shell, a layer of woven fiberglass insulation, and adhesive backing. I buy it off Amazon. I wish this was available years ago when my MGB literally melted the heel of my right shoe, due to...
  13. Heat Barrier Tape - Yes or No

I would avoid wraps if your driving includes a damp, salty environment (New England winter for example). Otherwise it can't hurt and probably helps.
  14. Flat spotted tires fix

Not sure how far you drove, but it used to take about 5 miles at highway speed for tires to round out again. I had some brands of snow tires take a cold set too, so not just a high performance tire issue. I never had tires permanently flat spot sitting over the winter. My S2000 sat from...
  15. Vibration Issues

I've had bad luck with Pirelli tires in the past, including slipped belts from aggressive driving. And a slipped belt definitely adds vibration. Years ago I bought a set of Pirelli's. A few months later I noticed they were made in 3 different 3rd world countries (2 tires were from the same...
  16. Pushed Transmission Oil Level Check Bolt Into Transmission

We had super fancy torque limiting drivers and wrenches at work, but I doubt they cost less than a couple thousand $. They recorded everything in realtime too (aerospace assembly). Also on a strict recalibration schedule.
  17. Pushed Transmission Oil Level Check Bolt Into Transmission

The torque spec on 6mm bolts is very low around 8 n-m. This is below the accurate range of common torque wrenches. I go by feel and best to go easy, choking up on the wrench. Years ago a I took a 6mm bolt to the motorcycle dealer as an example of what I needed. They handed me a bolt 2/3's...
  18. No overheating on 87 degree Sebring Track Day

Lowering springs can change alignment by a lot. For example, my son lowered a 90's Corolla 2" and the toe went from 0" to plus 2-1/2". Luckily the tie rods weren't frozen, so we could easily adjust back to 0" toe. OEM alignment probably best for the street. Racing alignment can vary...
  19. No overheating on 87 degree Sebring Track Day

You're doing well if not getting brake fade at Sebring. I have FL friends that track there. Many slow corners preceded by heavy braking.
  20. Coolant smell from front

If you've recently checked the coolant and a drop or two landed in the engine compartment, you'll smell it for weeks. Otherwise check for leaks and monitor the coolant level. Our 2014 CRV had a wiff of coolant smell since near new, but the level wasn't affected. Still going 12 years and 190k...
