I run my Type R in comfort and it still bounces all over the place. At NCM places where I'd normally use the curbing I had to avoid them to avoid just being bounced way off line. I was hoping the Swift lowering springs were a better pairing for the stiff factory dampers but I don't know that...

I figured after last weekend I was done for the year, but I decided to do one more track day, and set my Nashville Superspeedway PB by 1.2s, twice! This car with the COBB tune from @JST Performance is so fun the off-season is going to be a real struggle - looking forward to next year! Here...

Good to know, thanks! When you had them rebuilt they stayed in the US?
  4. *The FL5 Track Junkie Thread*

Have you actually had to have the KWs serviced? I've heard mixed experiences with their serviceability, or maybe moreso their re-valving options. I am very familiar with the V3 though - I run a version of the V3 on my Tesla which I used to race for TT also, and I've really had no complaints...

Thanks! I chatted with an FK8 owner of the Hipermax IV SP setup (predecessor of our R setup as I understand) which he uses for autocross (and seems pretty competitive with) - he really didn't have complaints but he couldn't find a rebuilder and after 4 years of use it may be time for him to...

Oh don't worry, I have some experience with Gridlife "Street" classes lol - I actually attended Midwest Fest this year in my RC-F that was built for casual track days (ie, coils, camber, wide tires) and was never intended for competition just to try it out - the event was a blast, and it's why I...

So, now that TT Nationals is over, my plan for the winter is to move up classes (with the primary focus being Street for Gridlife Time Attack) and therefore add more power and coilovers. Power is fairly straightforward but what is everyone running for coilovers? I can run up to 2-way...

I definitely wouldn't want a 4-pt standard harness on track - that's asking for trouble as you run the risk of submarining under the belt, and honestly that bar and the way it attaches looks a little suspicious to me to really trust in crash.
  9. *The FL5 Track Junkie Thread*

Yep, rollbars are great spots for them. That is probably an overkill setup just for a camera but it would certainly work - good to know it's out there!
  10. *The FL5 Track Junkie Thread*

I have few RAM mounts as well - they work well, but I'm really trying to get something where I can see the interior to watch for driver inputs along with having a clear view outside, so for something on the front window I'd need a pretty long boom to go back a few feet, and it would probably be...
  11. *The FL5 Track Junkie Thread*

Ya, the roof right over the front seats is really my favorite spot (sunroof works well, but obviously not in this case), because I can put it right in line with my eyes but also keep it fixed so it's not moving all over the place as it would on the helmet. I've tried a mount on the passenger...

Thanks! Prior to this I was able to get a few laps in at Nashville Super Speedway at a TNiA just to feel out the car at speed, but while that's a fun track it's so different in terms of layout and corner speeds it wasn't really a good test of the car, so this was the first real event...
  13. *The FL5 Track Junkie Thread*

Unfortunately I wasn't able to improve on my best today - the track seemed a little off to me (it was very cold during the first session), but I was able to get my Saturday/Sunday Segment 2 time within 0.4s of my Thursday/Friday Segment 1 time. For those curious, there were supposed to be two...

Thanks, happy to help if I can!
  15. *The FL5 Track Junkie Thread*

@svvitch thanks for the tag! Yep, that is me. I'm still getting used to the car (this is only my 2nd track event with it), so I know there's more time in it as I'm still off a few mph from where I think I should be in some spots, but we'll see if I can eek out any improvement tomorrow morning...
  16. FL5 Custom Tuning with JST Performance

I have the HEL oil cooler, PWR track spec radiator, and the Radium Engineering expansion tank. I just put the oil cooler on last weekend I'll probably do the radiator / expansion tank this weekend. Obviously I don't have any experience with them yet on track but I'm hoping they'll let me get a...
  17. FL5 Custom Tuning with JST Performance

I figured I'd jump in here and share my experience as I think I'm one of the first customers Brian has worked with on this platform with Cobb. I've known Brian for several years through Optima Ultimate Street Car competition (in completely different cars), and I am excited to work with him on...
  18. DIY: FL5 Lowering Spring Install for Civic Type R [Step By Step]

Thanks for this! I followed it and everything worked just as described. I know some people mentioned they had trouble getting the strut out, but my car had 500mi, so that may have helped things separate easier. I did find it easier/faster just to stand on the knuckle to pop it off vs. the...

I actually got asked that a few times yesterday too ?. Honestly STU didn't even cross my mind - my last few cars have never been intended for SCCA autocross classing (and weren't ST* legal) and XA is an easy class just to jump into. XA locally also has great competition - 9 drivers in a bunch...

Nice! I saw your car, looked good! I definitely was not top pax, but maybe at some point after an early run? It would need a lot more prep though to be competitive pax-wise in XA - it was just a shakedown event for TT Nationals on the track (I got the car for TT use not autocross).
