The usual suspects at the top (Honda and Mazda). However, I still don't think VW gets enough credit for including their turbo engine in all iterations of the Jetta. Sure that power plant isn't impressive when compared to the higher end engines from Honda and Mazda but it's their standard engine. The Jetta starts at $18,995 and comes with the 1.4 Turbo engine standard and while horsepower numbers are not all that (147 for current year, but getting a jump to 158 for 2022) the torque is impressive and more than the civic at 184 lb-ft. Imagine Honda making a bare bones version of the civic with a manual and the turbo engine for less than 20k?! It would be the car to buy for budget-minded enthusiasts.
