Just wondering.

I've heard of Honda dealers running the cars around the block or worse after oil changes. They sure did when I bought my car with 7 miles. I picked it up with 15 miles, not an oil change but supposedly bringing the car back from detailing.

If I use the recommended spec oil and filter and keep the receipts or video the oil change, can Honda have any claim on you in case you have some kind of engine failure down the road?

Technically no, but doesn't mean they won't try. Small claims court is generally the fairest path if the dealer and Honda North America deny significant claims. Also note the Magnuson-Moss warranty act protects consumers as well.

That being said, unlocking the ECU, engine tuning, new downpipe, changing major suspension components, etc. are red flags to avoid if worried about warranty coverage.

We buy Honda's because we rarely need dealer service after driving off the showroom. Recalls and TSB's have been the only exceptions.

Keep your receipts for when you buy oil and filters and keep a logbook of what you doing and what date you do it. I haven’t opened my owners manual yet, but I would imagine there’s a spot in there where you could write it all down.
