Richmond hill Honda and Pickering Honda asked me but only after I reached out for updates. I’m not high up on either and very very unlikely I’ll be able to get anything from either of these dealers unless at least 5 people drop out lmao. Richmond hill Honda wouldn’t tell me how many people put deposits down or even what to expect from the beginning. I can rant on about them but just gonna bite my tongue. At least Pickering knows they’ll get 2 per year. If anyone of you are high up either of these 2 dealers, hope you get your car and a good experience.

do you have a deposit for the 2023 golf r? Or waiting on 2024? Wondering when I should put it in lol
I pulled my deposit for the FL5 last month (I was #6 in the waitlist) and put it down for a 23 Golf R at a dealership in GTA. He gave me a BOS and an expected delivery time of early fall next year. Honestly, that was the best decision I've made, because stressing out over the FL5 was just not worth losing my mental/emotional balance. However great it might be, no car should be this hard to get.

I was waiting to hear back from Honda about the Type R before I put the order in for the Golf R. I know one of the guys on here decided not to wait and put an order in for one recently. He was told it wouldn't arrive till the Fall '23 but there's good chance it would come sooner. I think I'm going to wait till the January to hear something from Honda (was expecting if I got chosen for an allocation, it wouldn't be here till spring next year) before I switch to the Golf R. I still have an FG2 to keep me somewhat entertained lol.
It me 🙋‍♂️

As an update, the car I ordered in on the lot but I haven't bought it yet. OTD 65k with accessories and forcing me to trade in my car for about 4-6k under market value. Haven't said yes to the deal but also negotiating with a dealership for a 2020 FK8 for 50k with a 25k offer for my trade in instead. All said and done for now it's a difference of either 15-20k ish for me to get the FL5 vs the FK8. Honestly might go with the latter but I'll see how negotiations go today.

Anyone have any strong opinions on the FK8 vs FL5? I think I'd love both either way despite owning an FK7, but don't know if I'd love the FL5 that much more for 20k extra 😂

Well. This is as good as an offer as I can get. Haven't signed the bill of sale so I can still turn around but...

65k all in.
20k trade in (average trade in value)
-appearance package - paint, fabric, rust protection and undercoat
-high wall type r mats, cargo tray, block heater splash guards
- 2 year tire and rim protect, 7y warranty/130k
-xpel full hood fenders, bumper, a pillar, mirror

My other option was a 2020 57k BB Fk8 that was in okay condition for 50k all in with a 25k offer on trade in.

So, basically 20k more for the new type r with most accessories I would consider anyways. I always expected the car to be 60k as every place will add packages. 5k more than I hoped for but I expect flippers to try to sell the car for 60k anyways next year... Consider it 5k to know I've been the only one who's driven the car and fair value for my trade in. Apologies to all those who push to get msrp only as I guess I'm part of the problem. Cheers and good luck you guys.
congratulations!! please post pics and details when you get your car!!

Champ white! Got a few photos but I'll wait til I sign the BOS before posting. Honesty Im worried about buyer's remorse, but I gotta trust my research knowing that there isn't another car that performs like this one, holds value like this one, and where I like the looks. Fingers crossed!

Were you 6th on either of these 2 dealers? Or another dealer in the GTA? Congrats on the golf r man! I wanted to wait for the infotainment refresh LOl. Definitely agree about the stress of not knowing while your money is sitting at a dealer doing nothing lol.

6th at Halton Honda in Hamilton. Until I withdrew my deposit, the dealer was sure I would receive the FL5 by 2023 end of summer ( 😂 ). Now that more details are out, I'm glad I didn't trust his misconception.
The Golf R is an absolute hoot, and much more suited for the Canadian climate. The infotainment refresh may come next year, or the year after that. No one knows. And when you think about it objectively, how many times do you actually fiddle with the HVAC controls after you sent it on auto? My hands aren't the biggest in the world, so I'm not worried about accidently pressing the heated steering wheel button. There will be a longer than usual learning curve with the touch buttons , and like everyone else who bought a Mk8, I'll curse it every time I drive it, but the drive feel should trump it every time :headbang:

I'm happy you are enjoying the Golf R. AWD is superior to FWD.....but there is nothing about the FL5 the stops its from being and adequate winter car my dude
FL5 is just too nice to be winter driven, but it surely doesn't mean it cannot be. The heated seats and steering in the golf R come in real handy too

I'll be honest the main feature I was looking for in the FL5 was if the Canadian models came with heated seats and steering wheel. It's the only thing that would really pushed me to consider moving from the FK8 :p

confirmation from who Honda or the dealership (i think we all now know to take what dealerships say with a grain of salt, some are honest and genuine but majority are toying or bsing)

I think someone mentioned and it makes sense that 2022 and 2023 allocations went through to Honda already and soon customers will be told if not already picked up their car when the delivery would be ..2024 and 2025 orders are still tbd
Dealership
