I have researched a bit and most is about the FK8, I assume the FL5 is similar but maybe I can understand this a bit better.

There are a few modes for traction control

Disabling traction control in comfort/sport/individual disables it partly but not much.

Then you can disable it in R mode and that disables it a bit more?

You can also do the pedal dance and disable it completely.

Am I understanding this correctly?

I come from BMWs where you have an M mode which is what I liked to drive on at the track, it basically gives you some leeway and lets the car get loose until a point and then traction will intervene and cut power and correct the car. Is there such thing on the type R? I would love the car to not baby my every move but also do like that it could save me. From what I understand the 1st level of traction off does not do that, it basically just does not use traction control under X.Xmph.
