They accidentally posted the 2L numbers but they did show the baseline from Hondata.

Here’s what Motortrend said, “For Hondata's tuning purposes, they're using a Dynapack measuring device which attaches to the vehicle's front hubs, and in factory form they measured 162 hp and 163 lb.-ft. of torque as their factory baseline using their evaluation method.”

Which the dyno graph showed confirms that that’s true. So really it’s a little mistake but get corrected further on the article. Nothing to be sad about.

This may explain why the 11th gen is testing so much slower than the 10th.

Hondata uses the same dyno at Church's for their runs. And yes there are variations based on temps and such but this will be a reasonably good comparo:

Here's the numbers Hondata got on a 10th gen CVT non-Si 1.5T:

I’m confused on why the 11th gen has less power out of the factory especially now that it has VTEC. It’s almost like it was detuned?

The lower power output and heavier weight kind of explain some of the rather slow testing numbers we're seeing. I've seen a range of around 7.4 to nearly 8 seconds for 0-60 runs. The 10th was mostly seeing 6.6 to 7 second flat 0-60 times.

Some of it could also be the heavier 18's compared to the 2016 Touring's 17's, but it's clear it's a slower car. The 11th is a better car in many ways just not in acceleration.

Guys...the sedan is NOT aiming our market. Lets be patient and see what Honda did with the hatchback units.

Same engine though.

We're comparing apples to apples. Looks like Honda detuned the engine a bit. At least going by these dyno numbers and pro reviews of the 10th and 11th.

The Hatchback engine specs are the same as the sedan so we won’t see anything different. The Hatchback could even perform slightly worse as it will be heavier than the sedan.

It looks like Honda tuned the 11th gen for better gas mileage to help compensate for the extra weight. Unfortunately this is where we are at in engine design as Honda has stopped investing in ICE engines.

Look at thia video:

The sedan is aiming to a different market. The hatch is for a younger buyer and thus, I think the suspension and engine tuning will be sportier.

That defeats the purpose of the turbo engine imo. Might as well get a 2.0 NA if the power figures from that and the 1.5T are that close. No wonder the sport model and ex are so close in price.

Turbos on economy boxes are for....economy and overpassing torque. You obviously want a sporty car. The Si is the one for you.

The 10th gen turbos were faster than the 11th gen outside of the Si

When Honda released the 10th gen, they needed a home run. And with the base 1.5 turbo they had it. A car that was vastly sportier looking and vastly quicker than the previous generation. So fast, that it was just a tick behind the 10th gen Si and faster than the 9th gen Si in 0-60 times.

Fast forward to the 11th generation. Honda decided to tone down the look and tone down the power a bit. I honestly think it was detuned a bit for two reasons.

1. It helps with corporate numbers in terms of mpgs and such.

2. Unlike the 10th gen, there will now be a bigger gap between the 11th sedan and 11th Si acceleration.
