Sub and amp installation on NON Bose stereo

Has anyone successfully installed a after market subwoofer and amp to the NON Bose system? I bought the plug adapter, ( HI-LoW adapter that turns wires in to rca’s for the amp. I hooked it all up and my subwoofer just sits there and pulsates in and out in and out. No Sound comes through just pulsating in and out. Why is this. Does anyone know how to do it right?

I have!
For the non bose connect the loc straight from the head unit harness. Pop the headunit off, just clips. It's a purple wire and a gray wire. Tap into those 2 speaker wire.
