Still in the break-in period, I encountered a sudden P0028 fault during slow city driving. I noticed the DIFP dropped to 0.4 bar—sure enough, the high-pressure fuel pump had failed. When I removed the old 6B2 pump, I was surprised to find it had actually broken, which is extremely rare. Since the 6B2 pump I was using came from a salvaged vehicle, it's unclear whether the failure was due to its prior condition or a mismatch with the camshaft. I believe the latter is highly unlikely. I replaced it with another used 6B2 pump and continued with the break-in process.

Do you have any idea of the forces that move caused it to break? It just seems like such a weird spot to have breakage.

Great thread btw, but holy jump scare with the clubbed fingernails. You should get those checked out asap!

I'm using a used part from an RDX. People who sell used parts usually aren't as careful with them as we are, so it's very likely that it has been dropped or pressed at some point. However, given the structure of a high-pressure fuel pump, metal fatigue is unlikely to occur.
The hand in the photo belongs to my technician — he's a strong guy, though his hand does look a bit odd in the picture, haha.
