PRL High Volume Intake (HVI)

Next up, I've added the PRL High Volume Intake (HVI). This intake system has really opened up the car’s breathing capabilities, allowing for better throttle response and a noticeable increase in horsepower. The sound it produces is also a great bonus and helps give you that turbo whoosh noise that you're looking for!

11th Gen Honda Civic Vtec Slayer's FL5 Project Build PRL-FL5-REAR-MOUNT

PRL Rear Motor Mount

To ensure all that power gets transferred effectively to the wheels, I've installed a PRL rear motor mount. This upgrade has significantly reduced engine movement, resulting in a more solid feel when accelerating and shifting gears.

Acuity Shift Bushing Kit

Shifting gears has never been smoother thanks to the Acuity shift bushing kit. This upgrade has provided a much more direct and precise shift feel, making each gear change feel more satisfying and controlled.

Hondata FlashPro w/ Custom Tune Calibration

I've gone to the dark side and have utilized the infamous Hondata FlashPro tuning module to set a custom map tune on the vehicle specific to the mods installed and it's now crushing it!

11th Gen Honda Civic Vtec Slayer's FL5 Project Build hardlagged-heat-shield

Heat Management

Living in South Florida means dealing with extremely high ambient temperatures for much of the year. To combat heat soak and maintain consistent performance, I've focused heavily on heat management throughout the engine bay.

I've installed a Dream Automotive hard-lagged turbo heat shield and paired it with a PTP Hybrid Blanket on the downpipe.

In addition, I've applied Funk Motorsport gold reflective tape in strategic areas along with gold heat shielding on the turbo cooling lines to help reduce radiant heat transfer.

My IAT2 temperatures are typically averaging between 66°F and 74°F even during the hottest days. Idle temperatures while stopped remain the biggest challenge, but additional cooling upgrades are helping improve thermal management overall.

The temperatures measured on the turbo heat shield and downpipe blanket average around 87°F, which is extremely impressive considering the temperatures generated underneath during spirited driving.

WOT Performance Cooling Plate

To ensure optimal cooling under harsh conditions we installed the Cooling Plate engineered by Wide Open Throttle (WOT).

11th Gen Honda Civic Vtec Slayer's FL5 Project Build Innovatig-Catless-Downpipe-Civic-FL5-Vtec-Slayer

PRL Titanium Inlet Pipe, Innovatig 4" Catless Downpipe, and PRL Front Pipe

As the build continued to evolve, I upgraded the exhaust system to better support the increased airflow demands of the 27WON Kuro+ Turbocharger. The setup now consists of the PRL Titanium Turbo Inlet Pipe Kit, PRL 3" Front Pipe, and an Innovatig 4" Catless Downpipe.

While the previous catted downpipe performed exceptionally well, the move to the larger 4" catless downpipe provides significantly improved exhaust flow and reduces backpressure, allowing the upgraded turbocharger to operate more efficiently. This helps evacuate exhaust gases more effectively, improves spool characteristics, and maximizes the overall performance potential of the turbo system.

Combined with the PRL inlet and front pipe, the entire intake and exhaust path is optimized to support higher horsepower levels while maintaining excellent drivability and responsiveness.

27WON Kuro+ Turbocharger
One of the most exciting additions to the build has been the installation of the 27WON Performance Kuro+ Turbocharger. While retaining excellent drivability and responsiveness, the Kuro+ offers significantly more airflow potential than the factory turbocharger and provides the headroom necessary to support substantially higher power levels.

To maximize the turbocharger's efficiency, the supporting exhaust system was upgraded with an Innovatig 4" Catless Downpipe and PRL 3" Front Pipe, helping reduce backpressure and allowing exhaust gases to exit the system more freely.

The turbo has completely changed the character of the car, delivering strong mid-range power and impressive top-end performance while maintaining the refined driving experience that makes the FL5 such an incredible platform.

11th Gen Honda Civic Vtec Slayer's FL5 Project Build HKS-SQV4-BOV-KIT-CIVIC-FL5-Vtec-Slayer

HKS Super Sequential Blow-Off Valve (SSQV)
To complement the upgraded turbo system, I've installed the legendary HKS Super Sequential Blow-Off Valve configured to vent to atmosphere.

Not only does it provide the unmistakable HKS sound that enthusiasts know and love, but it also delivers lightning-fast pressure relief between shifts. The result is crisp turbo response, reduced compressor surge, and an even more engaging driving experience every time you get into boost.

11th Gen Honda Civic Vtec Slayer's FL5 Project Build CANFLEX-FULLRACE-VTEC-SLAYER

Full Race High Pressure Fuel Pump
As power levels continued to increase, fuel system upgrades became a necessity. To support the additional airflow demands of the Kuro+ turbocharger and ethanol blend tuning, I've installed the Full Race High Pressure Fuel Pump.

This upgraded pump delivers over 60% more fuel volume compared to the factory unit, providing the fueling capacity required for higher horsepower applications while maintaining consistent fuel pressure under demanding conditions.

Hondata 1530cc Fuel Injectors

Supporting the upgraded fuel system are a set of Hondata 1530cc fuel injectors for the Civic Type R platform.

These injectors provide substantial fueling headroom and work seamlessly with the upgraded high-pressure fuel pump, ensuring the engine receives the precise amount of fuel needed under both daily driving and wide-open throttle conditions. Together, these upgrades create a robust fueling solution capable of supporting future performance goals.

11th Gen Honda Civic Vtec Slayer's FL5 Project Build 11th-Gen-Hondata-CANFlex-Kit-2.0T-Vtec-Slayer

Hondata CANFlex Fuel System

To fully take advantage of ethanol-based fuels, I've added the Hondata CANFlex Kit for the 11th Gen Civic Type R.

The CANFlex system allows the ECU to continuously monitor ethanol content and automatically adjust fueling and ignition strategies based on the fuel blend present in the tank. This provides the flexibility to run anything from pump gas to higher ethanol blends without requiring separate calibrations or manual map switching.

11th Gen Honda Civic Vtec Slayer's FL5 Project Build Radium-PCV-Kit-Civic-Type-R-FL5-Vtec-Slayer

Radium Engineering PCV Oil Catch Can Kit
To further improve the reliability and long-term health of the engine, I've installed the Radium Engineering PCV Oil Catch Can Kit.

As boost levels and cylinder pressures increase, it's common for oil vapors from the crankcase ventilation system to make their way back into the intake tract. Over time, this can contribute to carbon buildup, reduce combustion efficiency, and contaminate critical intake components.

The Radium catch can system is designed to separate and capture these oil vapors before they can re-enter the intake system. This helps keep the intake tract, intercooler piping, and combustion chambers cleaner while promoting more consistent engine performance.

Given the increased airflow from the 27WON Kuro+ Turbocharger, upgraded fueling system, and E60 calibration, adding a properly engineered catch can was an easy decision. The Radium kit integrates beautifully into the engine bay and provides an extra layer of protection for a build that's designed to make serious power while maintaining long-term reliability.

It's one of those modifications that may not add horsepower directly, but it plays an important role in preserving performance and protecting the investment made throughout the rest of the build.

Hondata FlashPro with Custom E60 Calibration

Most recently, the custom tune has been revised and is now optimized for an E60 ethanol blend.

After extensive data logging and fine-tuning, the car is now running exceptionally well with excellent drivability, strong power delivery, and consistent performance throughout the RPM range.

The combination of the upgraded turbocharger, enhanced fuel system, CANFlex integration, and custom calibration has truly brought the entire build together.
