Stop feeding the red hat trolls people. Let the natural consequences of their choices impact them and then watch their cognitive dissonance as they find new ways to explain why being worse off is actually a good thing. This thread is so far past being productive that it’s comical.

Oh man where to start, my references were a bit over your head but I get it. The point was I never really concerned myself with critical race theory or inclusion, hence why I said I’m “old school”. But hey if writing vague posts and getting a sense of victory despite never successfully defending you 9000 other post or whole sense of political understanding then I’m glad that gave you some worth. Maybe we can get you a trophy
You got mad and started calling names after I made a comment about Marxists are entertaining.
Then went on and proved you don’t even know what that is.
Literally been giving you a history lesson and letting you make my points.
Now with the propaganda reference and you bring up critical race stamps all points.
Antonio gramsci is "old school" Darrick bell is propaganda. And you don't know the difference.
Let's get back to liking each other and stop calling names lmfao 🤣

no need for names you are right but assuming marxist theories are the basis for thinking the rich want suppress the poor is a bold assumption. But the crux of this whole thread is the concept of whether tariffs are good are bad and the arguments proposed for them being good are summarized best as “trust me bro America is great” and I have juxtaposed that using tariffs in a haphazard childish way is negative. We will see price increases we will see quality of life go down and we are not logistically or structurally prepared to make the goods we need for ourselves and won’t for a long time. The listed conditions will lead to harder economic times and possible recession as every major bank is now betting on a recession in the 2nd quarter. Everyone is saying the tariffs are bad, and the damage being done could last for many years no matter who is in power. Also throwing out obscure marxist theorist names is pretty neat to do and tbh I’m not a Marxist lol so your reference literally meant nothing to me, I prefer the Voltaire Rousseau and Locke the philosophers who’s competing theories helped shaped the vision the founding fathers of this country established when trying to escape the tyranny of colonial rule. Authoritarian governments are antithesis of democracy yet there yall are running into its arms despite claiming to love freedom.

Must admit That I just skim over the long winded retorts.
Not understanding something doesn't equal obscurity.
Tariffs helped escape and shape colonization more than any philosophy ever.
Japan is investing billions, Korea is investing billions. Alberta wants to succeed from Canada.
It's always good to know who you're real friends are 😆

You guys are in an echo chamber while the rest of America has moved on with reality.
My goofy video post was more of a remark about this thread and literally ANY political thread on the internet. They’re rarely constructive and are a massive waste of time. No one here is going to convince anyone of anything, so I’m just trying to lighten the mood. I don’t care if you’re liberal or conservative. Making fun of the POTUS is what we do! It’s American! We’ve done it for decades! If we can chill out and laugh together, then that’s a pretty good place to come to some sort of commonality…and then he killed the dog. (fart)💨

Just to slow down and get back in topic : What I (and I think most here) would be interested in understanding is what y’all think the tariffs will do short and long term. Like it or not, the reality is Trump is the president. Alright. Let’s stop the finger pointing BS and the anti-dem / anti-rep rhetoric. It’s not helpful. These tariffs affect EVERYONE in some way. Let’s talk about that!

My thoughts :

Short term I don’t think they’re good, especially for those already financially struggling. I think this is easily understood. Prices go up. Buying power goes down. Middle and lower class are feeling the squeeze more than anyone and it’s a problem that we’ve created. It didn’t happen overnight or over any single presidential term. Regardless, it sucks! I, and I’m sure others here, have personal experience with that.

Long term…we’ll have to see. I think it’s possible they could prove to be beneficial IF they bring more manufacturing back to the US and secure more jobs. I think we can all agree that we (as a country) have become too accustomed and reliant on cheap, foreign, products. Ideally, we’ll make more things here. Yes, they’ll be more expensive, BUT we’ll have more control of our future and people’s incomes will be more aligned to afford it. I think that’s the goal and it’s a good goal!

I’m certain I’m glossing over many details here. I’m not an economist and have an Ewok’s knowledge of such things compared to some of you.

Mexico 175 billion trade surplus. Canada 63 billion trade surplus. They have no problem importing cheap Chinese products and selling to America for profits. Then have the balls to tariff 300% on American products to protect their countries own industries.
Those guys are our best friends right ✅️

E.U 200 billion trade surplus America can't hardly sell cars there because they tax so much. Why because same thing our best friends do is they protect there domestic industry ✅️
Anyone who think that’s good practice then I've got beachfront property in Indiana next to the Honda factory lol

Even if it's just artificial ponds, the Greensburg plant is literally surrounded by water, so someone can conceivably make a (small) beachfront property there. How did you manage to even get this wrong?

Didn't I say that I'd have beachfront property for sale next to the plant.

When would you like a tour 🤔

I’m not trying to be a smart ass, but can you point out sources? Facts from, ideally, unbiased sources tend to help people have a reasonable discussion and not veer into the damn ditch! 😂 Even if it’s just the numbers, it’s helpful. All of us have become huge skeptics of everything we read, but I believe once the weeds are removed the actual facts are revealed in parts and pieces.

Absolutely seeing how a lot of people don't really look past headlines in the news.
The most basic place to find trade information is marketwatch.com or us census or https://ustr.gov/ all ot this is basic public information 😆

It’s best for everyone to get your information from multiple sources and do you research. If you’re taking everything one person or one source says you end up misinformed and miss informing everyone else. Some of the info in this thread pertaining to Canada is, well, incorrect.

Do your research people!
