  1. FL5 Civic Type R at C&D Lightning Lap 2023 -- lap time beats FK8 by 1.9 seconds!

That is my point. Lightning lap times are taken in different conditions and the cars come equiped with a variety of options and a huge variety of tires etc. Some can definitely benefit from better tires and wheels while others already have them. (Witness the cars tested with Trofeo R tires). The...
  2. FL5 Civic Type R at C&D Lightning Lap 2023 -- lap time beats FK8 by 1.9 seconds!

Certainly the FK8 does not have an oil temp gauge but extrapolates temps from engine temp and oil pressure and who knows what else. I use LogR on my 2020 to read oil temps and interestingly I have not had any episodes of limp mode despite LogR saying the oil is hitting 266 F. I don't push it...
  3. FL5 Civic Type R at C&D Lightning Lap 2023 -- lap time beats FK8 by 1.9 seconds!

There are issues with using a Lightning lap figure as a reason to buy a car. The day was very cool which can be a big advantage, especially on a fast track like VIR but I am not aware of the temps when the FK8 was tested. Also 265 tires on 9.5" rims are usually going to beat 245s on 8.5" rims so...
  4. 2023 Civic Type R FL5 - Reviews Compilation (Articles + Videos) ✍🏻 🎥

Throttle House does the review of a car on old 245 Continentals (FK8) vs new 265 Michelins (FL5). You don't have to be a genius to realize the advantage of newer wider tires on lap times. The vast majority of FK8 owners who track a lot,(myself included) have separate wheels with 265 (or bigger)...
  5. 2023 Honda Civic Type R Dyno Results - Hondata FL5

Are there any differences between the engine hardware in the FK8 vs the FL5 or is it just tuning?
  6. 2023 Civic Type R FL5 - Reviews Compilation (Articles + Videos) ✍🏻 🎥

Not a lot of space in the rear hatch for track tires, jack and tools. Maybe it is enough longer than the FK8 to accommodate as much stuff.
  7. FL5 Dynojet: 307 whp / 327 lb-ft (and Hondata Dyno)

Dynos are good for tuning and seeing if any changes you make actually improve power. OTOH, they are not standardized well even when correcting for atmospheric conditions. The real test of the car is how fast it accelerates, not what a dyno says. Not sure how much more the FL5 weighs than an FK8...
  8. 2023 Civic Type R FL5 - Reviews Compilation (Articles + Videos) ✍🏻 🎥

Hey, I was 67 when I bought my 2020 and will be 69 next month. I track mine repeatedly and do ok in time attack competition events. The FK8 is so easy to drive, it makes me look better than I really am.
  9. 2023 Civic Type R FL5 - Reviews Compilation (Articles + Videos) ✍🏻 🎥

Hmmm. Longer, lower, wider (and heavier). Sounds like your father's Oldsmobile. I track my FK8 a lot and it doesn't look like the FL5 can carry as much under the hatch (which I routinely fill in the FK8 with tires, jack, jerry cans, tools, food and drinks etc.) Agree completely that the FL5...
  10. All New 2023 Civic Type R Sets New Suzuka Circuit Lap Record! 🏁

So what would you rather have for track use? A 300hp car that weighs 3000lb or a 400hp car that weighs 4000 lb? If the extra 1000 lb (hypothetically but not really) gets you AWD, you will accelerate better out of slow corners but you will lose in every corner and every braking zone unless you...
  11. ? First Video of 2023 Civic Type R Track Testing at Nurburgring!

It looks pretty bland compared to the FK8. Also I have no idea how it will be any better at cooling at the track. If anything, I would have thought it looks like it will be worse. At this stage there would have to be some pretty astounding improvements to get me to part with my 2020.
