Hi there,

I am considering buying a new 2024 Civic LX for my son in college. He's not a car enthusiast, but we want him to have a solid and reliable car that will get him through school and when he eventually finds a job. Reliability is a priority since he will rely on the dealer for any maintenance and repairs.

I read rumors that 2025 might make the 1.5 turbo standard on even the base LX. Is that likely and how much would that increase the price? Is the 1.5 turbo notably better than the NA 2.0 for basic transportation?

TIA for any feedback!

The 1.5 turbo is more fun for sure but the 2.0 NA is fine for basic transportation. The 1.5T likely would increase the cost if that change does happen.

I can assure you that for 2025 the 2.0L will remain for the base LX and Sport Civic Sedan, there will no longer an LX hatchback for 2025 though.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

This gives me more comfort to buy a 2024 and not have it obsolete a couple months later. Any idea when 2025's would start appearing at dealers?

I have been obtaining estimates on the Civic LX and one dealer reminded me they charge $149 for wheels locks. I guess the plastic hubcaps on the LX steel wheels must be a hot commodity. LOL

Now currently considering a Sport to get the 18" alloy wheels and blacked out trim. I really wanted to stay at $25k...

Update:

Took delivery of a 2024 meteorite gray sedan sport today. My son is beyond happy!

Thanks again for the feedback!

Reminds me of my freshman year when my dad gave me just enough to buy a new Civic DX. Good memories. The civic is just a gateway to being a car enthusiast.

My wife is hoping he doesn't walk through that gateway. LOL

He's not a car guy at the moment, but we shall see how his interest grows. It would be fun for it to become a hobby we can share together.
