I've had two windshields replaced through USAA, one on my Golf R and one on my Mach-E both required recalibration. I paid my deductible and USAA covered the rest. I did go through Safelite though and requested OEM glass through them.So my windshield got cracked the other day and I'm currently fighting tooth and nail with my insurance (USAA). I'm obviously requesting OEM glass and parts but they said the only way they will cover enough for OEM is if there's no aftermarket option. Otherwise they'll only reimburse me the cost of aftermarket. I originally thought they'd be hard pressed to find one since from my research, the Type R has a different windshield (not sure how). Turns out they found one and it's the most generic aftermarket universal windshield they could find. This is it.
Anyone know if this aftermarket one is any good? Will the safety sensors still function properly?
I really want to go with OEM (my dealer already ordered the parts) but insurance is only willing to cover $500ish $2200 worth of glass, and $400ish for $700+ worth of labor. Meanwhile if I go through their network and go to some approved shop, all I gotta pay is my deductible.
What would you guys do? What is the primary difference between the Type R windshield and a normal one? And is that difference worth potentially paying out of pocket about 2 grand?
Edit: Glad they were able to resolve this for you
