Buzzing noises when driving between 30 and 60 miles per hour?

Is it just me, and does the car make those noises?

But when I drive at those speeds on the highway, it's like the wheel bearings are really noisy.

I don't know if the soundproofing is too poor, or if the wheel bearings are already making noise—I mean, a humming sound.

The car has 15,000 miles on it.


Especially when I'm not accelerating and the car is in gear.

Is there any way I can rule this out? Or is this the normal noise?

i noticed the same thing when i first got my Si. sounded like some sort of harmonic resonance around 37-43 mph. probably a combination of the stock tires, and gears/LSD breaking in. don't really notice it much anymore since switching to Conti tires.

can you get a sound clip to see if we are talking about the same noise? mine was pretty faint...doubt it'd show up on a recording inside cabin.

There's two ways to diy check if the hub bearings are going bad.

1) while cruising at those speeds, do a very slight left or right motion. Usually if the bearings are bad you'll notice the noise changes as more or less weight is on each side. Now you're down to a 50% chance of knowing which bearing is bad.
2) Use wheel chocks, with parking brake off and car in neutral. Jack a suspected corner up. Gently rest one finger on the suspension coil spring. Use the other hand or a friend to spin the wheel freely. If the bearing is bad, the grinding will transfer a noticeable vibratition feeling in the spring. If unsure try the opposite side for a difference in feel. It would be extremely rare if both sides went bad at the same time.
